there are free applications in the app store that basically hypnotize you (but not really). helped me! also i'm a fan of 'nutritional supplements' like melatonin and valerian root. some people take tylenol pm but you can get the same effect by using benadryl. chamomile tea and/or warm milk helps tremendously. medatation is VERY effective. i learned by going to a free seminar at my local library. you can google directions on how to- or ask.com of course! the skill of meditation is very useful. praying helps too. i don't recommend music- personally i find it too distracting. reading is effective though.
there are a lot of guided meditations and sleep music cds out there. a lot of them are disappointing but one that worked for me is the delta sleep system by dr. jeffrey thompson. it's on itunes. you could also try eating things like cherries, bananas and oatmeal, milk, etc. If all else fails, you can try benadryl or dramamine if you're not opposed to "unnatural" remedies.
