(Christians) Is there any way that I can hear the voice of God?

I don't see why I can't. ALOT of people in the Bible heard the voice of God, but how can I hear it? I've heard it once, but I was like 11 or 12, and I forgot what I did to hear it. How can I hear it? I want to know what God's will is for me. Suggestions?

are you listening? in the book of kings when elijah heard the work of God it came as a gentle wind. not a fire, not an earthquake etc... turn of the phone turn off the computer, turn off the tv turn off the radio get off the road and out of the car go to a quiet place open your bible, read a few verses stop and dont do anything but listen and meditate on how you can apply what you just read to your life. you will hear....loud and clear the Lord speaking to you. God Bless you my child.

You were definitely blessed to hear but normally God doesnt speak audibly. I found that if I devoted a time every day to read & write what I learned I found God was guiding me to find His will. I made it simple. I either read a chapter or two in the new testament or a chapter in proverbs (theres 31 chapters so i would read the chapter for todays date). I would write 1) a principle, 2) a promise, 3) a command, and 4) my application (which could be in the form of a prayer). If you do this you will find He is speaking to you and guiding you in His will for you.

I haven't read all the other answers already posted here, so it may be that mine will duplicate or even speak exact opposite as some probably posted. But, first, I agree with you. God does speak to His children. Of course you know that because He has spoken to you. He has spoken to me as well. No adverse reaction to that ever bothers me at all. He spoke in the Bible and He speaks now. Well, I know He has spoken to me by prompthings in my spirit, that of course fit with His Word in the Bible and not adversely. Secondly, when reading the Word or Bible, the Scripture is highly revealed with such great understanding in the words I read right then, That's Him speaking to us too, right? But I defintely Know that He speaks definite Word into our heart as well. So, in answer to your question, I can say that when we are prayerful and obedient, and as we pause in prayer and as the Bible says meditate on His Word and set time aside to do these things and seek Him often, we are more likely to be sensitve in our inner man to discern quickly when He is speaking to us. So, I'd say spend additional time in the things mentioned above and tell Him that you want Him to minister to you. The Bible says to come and reason together, and to come as little children. Little children talking to Abba Daddy. I believe that as you are open and honest before Him in prayer and ask you seek more time with Him, He will make sure you hear Him when He speaks. I don't know when that is, but I believe the desire you have is one He appreciates and is pleased. And if we ask for a loaf of bread, He doesn't hand us a fish. I believe you will hear from God. Sorry it takes so many sentences for me to express my answer, but I hope it helps you.

There is no biblical reason why God could not or would not speak to a person audibly today. With the hundreds of times the Bible records God speaking, we have to remember that they occur over the course of 4,000 years of human history. God speaking audibly is the exception, not the rule. Even in the biblically recorded instances of God speaking, it is not always clear whether it was an audible voice, an inner voice, or a mental impression. God does speak to people today. First, God speaks to us through His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Second, God speaks through impressions, events, and thoughts. God helps us to discern right from wrong through our consciences (1 Timothy 1:5; 1 Peter 3:16). If God were to speak today, His words would be in full agreement with what He has said in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17). God does not contradict Himself. http://www.gotquestions.org/God-still-speak.html

We can rest assured of God's promise: "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you" (James 4:8). As we pray, study Scripture, and seek to live holily before the Lord, He will reveal His plan for us in His perfect time and in a way we can understand.
Report as
If god is so loving, then why did he only give the ability to speak his word to a select few prophets instead of everyone? Seems like that would have done the job nicely....

The more we pray and are silent before God, the more we can know His will for our lives (Lam 3:25-26; 1 Kgs 19:11-12; Prv 3:5-6; Mt 7:7-11). God also reveals His will to us through signs, both small and large. So keep an eye open for unique occurrences, answered prayers, and an overall peace that comes about when you have made good choices (1 Jn 3:19-22). Most importantly, God speaks to us through His Word. This Word comes to us in the person of Jesus Christ, who is the Word made flesh; through the Bible; and through Sacred Tradition as handed on by the Church.

Hope this helps! - ManOfKnowledge

How can you possibly hear the voice of a SPIRIT (assuming there is a god). Does a spirit have a vocal cord? And, the biblical references were interpolations. They mistook the sound of the thunders for the voice of gods, due to acute lack of knowledge of the nature. Anything beyond their perception was considered as god. You will remember, even the "golden calf" was a god!!

Everybody, the Bible also tells us to be kind and to show Christ through our lives. You are all acting very rude to pious and giving him (and everyone else who reads these comments) a VERY bad example of Christ. 2 Timothy does say to refuse foolish and ignorant speculation, but it doesn't say to be rude about it. It doesn't matter wether this question was meant for Christians or atheists, he was only sharing his thoughts on the subject. This is what I (and most likely many of you) was told by my/our parents, "If you can't say something nice, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL." So, if you want to say something about pious' answer, you can think him, tell him you don't agree for whatever reason, then forget about it. If he wants to debate, then debate. But you don't have to be rude.
Report as
I think that Jesus was just a cautionary tale that being too nice is as detrimental as being evil. I mean, look where it got him, being betrayed and crucified is not something to want to follow after.
Report as
Zack: you have my respect & I truly appreciate the grandeur of your tolerance. Thank u, sir.
Report as
N...wood: so Jesus was in fact NOT "too nice"; he just pretended or applied hypocrisy as being nice to "just caution us"!! Is that it?
Report as
And, "Jesus didn't know about his betrayal & crucifixion, until after he's betrayed & crucified"; is that what u proposed?
Report as
No I meant that he really was TOO nice and paid the price for his ignorance of the real world. He was betrayed and crucified because he was easily manipulated by those around him.
Report as
So, a god could be manipulated by men? And Jesus was ignorant of this real world, which he is said to have created? And he paid for ignorance being crucified, not that he came willingly to be sacrificed; is that it?
Report as
... Jesus isn't god.... I hope you realize that
and instead of constantly asking me stupid questions, why don't you actually try to put up your side of the argument.
And yes, as far back as the history of Christianity recalls, men have always used the bible to their own means and wills to manipulate those with lesser minds. Therefore manipulating god to their own needs, but that is a seperate point because Jesus ISN'T god.
Report as
GodordirtZack
Jesus was God. He said time and time again all through his life that "I and the Father are one." And Jesus did know that he was going to be betrayed and crucified - he told his disciples that during the last supper (Matthew 26:2). You're also missing the point of it. Being too nice wasn't the reason. The reason that he was crucified was to deliver man from eternal suffering in Hell. John 3:16-17 says "For God so loved the world that He gave his only son. That whoever believes in him shall no perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save it." He wasn't crucified because of being nice, he was crucified to fuffil the prophecies and to save the world.
Report as
If he was god then why did you just say "For God so loved the world that He gave his only son. ?...And I find it ironic that Jesus died for all man's sins by being killed by men who were in effect sinning. His point didn't seem to get across there.
Report as
Nic:
I'm on your side of the argument. It's ok.
Report as
GodordirtZack
Jesus is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - he is three-in-one, the Trinity. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and served as a sacrifice for us sinners. Before Jesus, people had to use a flawless lamb and sacrifice it. The lamb would serve as a substitutional death for the one who sacrificed it. The lamb died the death that we, as sinners, deserved. Jesus was the Lamb of God. He was killed by us all so that when we die, God would look at Jesus' death - the death that we deserved - and it would be paid. Jesus died for us, so that, if we accept his gift of that substitutional death, we can spend eternity, once again, with God in Heaven.
Report as
It still doesn't answer the question of how god is jesus but jesus is also god's son.
Report as
GodordirtZack
Jesus IS God, He IS God's son, and He IS the Holy Spirit. Jesus can be both God and God's son. He is God in the flesh - 100% spirit, and 100% human. Do a little studying on theology, Answers in Genesis is a good place to go. Maybe you'll understand it after a little studying.

Jesus is God, Jesus is God's son, and Jesus is the Holy Spirit. He is the Trinity, He is three-in-one. God was not and cannot be created, He is and was always there. He has no beginning, and will have no end.
http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/aid/v3/n1/the-trinity
Do some studying on theology, at least try to understand before marking everyone who believes in the Trinity as insane or ignorant (not saying that you actually are, but this is the feeling I'm getting from you).

Explain how 3x1 = 1.
Report as
GodordirtZack
3x1 does not = 1. I'm not saying that there are three God's yet only one God. I'm saying that this one God is branching off into three persons. Did you read the article I gave you a link to? I'll use the same thing that St. Patrick used - a shamrock, or clover. A clover has three leaves, yet it is one plant. If these leaves were plucked off the stem, would you then conclude that it is three different plants? Of course not. You see, you are looking at the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as three separate persons separate from God, so it doesn't make any sense to you. Think of God as a clover. God is one plant, yet He has three leaves. The stem represents God, the leaves represents the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is God, yet at the same time He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Report as
How can you be your son? Clover and god are not compatible.
Report as
GodordirtZack
I can't be my own son. However, I'm stuck in a world run by natural laws - things like being your son is impossible - to us. But God is not of this world, not bound by natural laws, and can be more than one person while at the same time still be one God. And yes, God isn't a clover, it was just a symbolic explanation. I was merely trying to help you understand it.
Report as
Anything beyond or against nature is impossible. Thereby, ipso facto - to be rejected. Even if god acted supernaturally 2000 years ago, then he should very well be able to do so now! There is no reason for any thinking man to believe what a group of primitive priest, full of ignorance & vile in nature, told us to be true. A thing, which everybody is required to believe, warrants that the proof of it MUST be - at least to an optimum level - equal to everybody. And, not to forget that extraordinary claim necessitates extraordinary proof.

Report as
GodordirtZack
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Report as
Can the bible say otherwise? Does not the Torah & Koran says the same for their followers & against the non-followers? Does that make, upon the same principle as you gave - any right than; or more wrong than you are?
Report as
GodordirtZack
It simply means that you're not going to understand things outside the material world until you know there's things outside the material world. I can't seem to get you to understand the Trinity because you think there is nothing outside of nature.
Report as
Isn't god a matter too?
Report as

You can hear God through meditation on His Word, prayer, and that still, small voice. God tells Joshua to meditate on His word day and night, so that he might not stray from it. Knowing the will of God is one of those things that are both complicated and simple. This is something I was told about knowing the will of God; Find a need, and fill it. There's plenty of needs in this world, whether doctors in Africa, missionaries to Indonesia, or more Billy Graham. There's always a need. Whichever God puts on you heart, it could be that that's His will.
Hope this helps - Zack
