I have a painful lump on the underside of my right breast. Is this cause for serious concern? I am only 19 years old.

I first noticed this lump just a few days ago, maybe a week... don't know if it's a sign of potential cancer, or what. Please help! I am just about to get married... don't want this to be a concern in my first year of marriage!

More info, potentially helpful:
- This has never appeared before.
- I am 100% NOT PREGNANT.
- I am not sexually active.
- I did recently have an IUD put in - the Mirena, which releases hormones.

The bad news first: Cancer doesn't necessarily hurt
The good news: Breast lumps aren't usually cancer
The other bad news:You need a mammogram....now-ish

I agree pain is probably a good sign, but you will have to have it checked out.

Go to the doctor as soon as possible. It may be a cyst of some sort, but my sister had that and it turned out being breast cancer.
Best of luck to you.

get it checked out....sometimes hormones cause bumps like tht on women especially on breast. my two baby girls were born with lumps on their chest and the doctor explained it was due to excess hormones and go away when the body gets balanced out with all these hormones .but you should still get it checked out regardless. goood luck!!

It could be a small abscess or hormonal cyst. I would call and speak to the nurse for your GYN doctor that put IUD in for you. It's best to have it checked so that you are not worried or concerned and can enjoy your upcoming wedding.

Because it is "painful", it is most likely NOT a cancer. However, it should bbe checked by your P C, primary care physician. Good luck to you.
