What is the democrats and republicans stance on abortion in the 2012 election?

Democrats are pro-choice, whereas Republicans are pro-life. The former is common sense, the latter is a religious issue.

Strangely many deme are anti death penalty (as I am, although I am a conservative) while they are pro abortion. Many conservatives are anti abortion but pro life.......................
go figure.

It is not necessarily a religious issue to know that life begins at conception and it is wrong to kill a baby. I would call it a moral issue as even atheists do not believe in murder and can be pro-life.

To say that life begins at conception is more of a religious argument than anything else and also a moral issue. It depends on the persons beliefs.

Life beginning at conception is not a factual statement. If that's the case why don't you back your birthday up 9 months and start celebrating it then? In any case this issue has no place in politics.

Yes... We kill innocent babies. The second they leave their mother's womb, we just knife the for kicks. A fertilised egg isn't fertilised egg. It's not a baby for many months afterwards. Get your head out of your arse.

Total and absolute disagreement.

It really doesn't matter what the parties think. The laws concerning this highly debated topic are simply in the control of us citizens. You can make a difference if you contact your congressman if you feel in disagreement in a position they may take.

the current law that guids fedarl laws is the wade vs. roe ruling. that allows for abortion federally, though states can still ban it locally if they want. so democrats support the law and republicans are looking to over turn it.

Vote for the candidate based on what they actually do for the people, not what they say they do or do not believe in concerning abortion. Honestly, do we really want to go back to the old days where women went to back alley abortionists to do their dirty work? I don't like the idea of abortion at all but when politicians pretend that they care about this subject, I just do not believe any of them.

My sardonic take:
Democrats hate all restrictions on killing people unless it's protected by a criminal attorney. Drones are quite acceptable as a means of post-term abortion for terrorists.
Republicans love life as long as it belongs to the white middle-class or above, or works for them in a factory. The rest are tolerated unless they are on welfare or belong in a foreign country, in which case they prefer them to be born there and stay until called.
