How do you tell people that you have an autoimmune disease when they think you will be 100 percent better? I get a wide range of reactions

Some people ask me if it will ever go away. What really irritates me is when people give me advice on how to treat my medical condition and they are not even doctors at all. I go in for IV infusions every other month to keep my disease at bay.

I wouldn't tell them anything unless they want to write a book or make a movie about you. Maybe ask them what's wrong with you? You don't look so well today.

I'm sorry, that really sucks. I don't have an autoimmune disease but I have other stuff so I know how ignorant people can get. I guess come up with a really short and SIMPLE answer and get really good at changing the subject? :/ Best of luck.

I have a complex autoimmune disease and I will try to tell others in the future that I simply have arthritis of the spine and it is caused by my immune system attacking my bones and other areas of the body. Most people think that only older people get arthritis. Thank you.

You can tell people that you have an autoimmune disease by being frank and straight forward to those you want to know. You can also explain better about the condition so that they understand better what you are ailing from and also know what they can do. People deal with things differently and do not be mad at some as they might think their advice is their way of helping. You can give them the site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoimmune_disease for more information.
