Do I call my father to say happy father's day even if he's been an ass lately?

Absolutely. This might just be what he needs to shame him into behaving better. Be the bigger person, and act as if you never even noticed he's been a jerk lately.

It would be a great idea to call your dad up and wish him a happy father’s day. It could be he would really like to hear you say that regardless what he has been to you. The thought would be special and he would appreciate it and you should go ahead and do it.

Yes. And I'm sure at times he thinks you're an ass too. But love is unconditional. Don't NOT do something you'll regret later...

Try this: Get a piece of paper, fold it in half and write these words--"Even though I think, some of your behavior has had a stink, particularly that of an ass, I would be one too if I let it pass to say 'Happy Father's Day' to you"

Yes. Think about the time you were a teenager. I'll bet you were an "ass" at times, yes? He still put a roof over your head and made sure you had food on your table.Right? By all means, tell him you love him and are glad he's your dad and put up with you!!
