What does Lucy in the sky with diamonds mean?

It doesn't mean LSD as most people think. It is in reference to a picture John's son Julian drew in school.

Edited to add - The girl Julian was referring to in the picture actually passed away this past year.

It was inspired my John Lennon's son, after he drew a picture and titled it "Lucy in the sky with diamonds." It is also known that if you were to make an abbreviation out of it, it would look like LSD.
