Colostomy as well? My friend towards the end had baby sips of liquids and swish and spit or baby bites of food and chew and spit just to get the taste of real food. It sounds gross but it made her so happy to taste things like a normal person. With a tube or colostomy it usually means food isn't being broken down properly. So be very careful.

no, they eat through the feeding tube until it is safe once again to eat by the mouth, they are basically fed the vital things (vitamins etc) to stay healthy in an IV form

No, a person cannot eat food by mouth when they are on a feeding tube for a prolonged time. This is called a peg tube; it is a procedure where there is a feeding tube placed without performing an operation.
