Can I be Christian and democrat at the same time?

I had a fight with my friend and he said that democrats can't be Christian because they give you the right to kill (babies) but i would never do that myself, I just think people should have the right if it's causing them physical pain (like how you would kill someone for self defense and you can still go to heaven.) can I be a democrat and Christian at the same time? I do believe in being a good person and doing what Jesus would do.

Not to be rude or anything, but your friend is an idiot. There are so many issues that need to be dealt with, and to focus on one that honestly isn't going to change, is just narrow minded and foolish. Abortion was been deemed lawful by the supreme court decades ago. The law is not going to change anytime soon. If for religious reasons you are against it, don't have one.

If all the people who spend their money and energy campaigning against abortion would actually focus on something that has a more reasonable possibility of changing, like improving our education system, or healthcare, or the economy, something useful might actually get done.

I agree with you that no matter what each candidate believes about abortion and no matter who wins, the laws regarding abortion aren't going to be changed soon.
However, if a person truly believes that abortion is murder, then I think they should have serious qualms about a candidate that differs from them on this point. If you believe abortion is murder and a candidate believe abortion should be allowed, then you have no choice but to believe that the candidate believe murder should be allowed. At this point you must have serious reservations regarding the morality of the candidate in general.

Also don't ever say never because when it comes to the fight for life, millions of us will never quit fighting to end this genocide. 4 million babies have already died a horrible death. It must end.

If you want to end abortion, then educate people, and supply them with the tools they need to avoid unwanted pregnancies. If you are on this site any length of time, you may have noticed the amount of questions on here about if they may be pregnant, or can they get pregnant are astounding. I know abstinence is the best option to avoid pregnancy, but unfortunately it is not realistic in this day and age.

Religion has nothing to do with politics and it should not determine the out come of an election( just had to say). I'm an atheist and I'm republican. There is more to politics than religious views.

Of course you can!! Don't listen to what your friend has to say. You know that you wouldn't harm anyone. You can be whatever religion and political party you want.

Supporting murder, in the smallest, most indirect way, still makes you a murder. That basic principle doesn't change!

Be true to your beliefs in both...I don't think anyone truly agrees with every aspect of their religion or political party.

Jesus was tortured and marred beyond recognition then accepted death on a cross at the hands of those who hated him so he could save them. He endured unimaginable pain voluntarily from his enemies. You think it's okay to kill a baby if it causes you physical pain. You compare killing a baby (who didnt choose to be conceived)for causing pain during pregnancy to self-defense from an attacker. Decide for yourself if those actions are Christlike. Forget the whole democrat/republican conversation and decide where you really stand on abortion first.

UnknOwn..... You have my vote on this one. God does not care what political party you belong to. It's not about your political party, your sex, the color of your skin, your age, if you're rich or poor or anything else such as this.
It's how you lead your life, the example that you set, that's what matters to God. What God cares about is that we follow His Word and keep our faith strong. Being a good Christian involves not judging others and showing compassion. So you can have compassion for others of different beliefs or lifestyles, as long as you live your life in Christ.

One can be whatever they find convincing. Democrats think they own the black vote, and Republicans think they own Christian Right. Neither is true; we vote as conscience dictates.

By condoning a persons right to kill babies you are no better than the one doing the killing. What would Jesus do? Do you think he is ok with you not standing up for the children?
A candidates principles do matter or at least they should. They tell us if they are a good person or not and that matters on how they will lead.

Religion has nothing to do with politics, your friend is clueless. Both dems and GOP go against gods teachings every day.

Whatever makes sense to you is fine. Without people on the opposite side, we wouldn't be able to see different ideas. Don't let your friend make what you are.

Didn't Jesus say, "Render unto Ceasar..."? I think it's safe to say the realm of human politics is divorced from divinity, as it should be. And define "Christian". There are thousands of definitions on this site alone, so good luck. As for the baby killing, God supposedly drowned countless babies thousands of years ago because he didn't like what most of the adults were doing. Unlike the fetuses who die in abortions, these babies died screaming in mortal terror, clinging to their mothers. God could use a little more consistency with his baby-killing policy, but then again, he could use more consistency in a lot of His policies.

What in the world are you talking about? God never did such a thing unless you are talking about the flood. Everybody died except Noah and his family. God created us and has all the authority to destroy us. Humans on the other hand do not as stated in the commandments. There is only one path to the true God and that is through the blood of Jesus. You seem to mix religions with being a Christian. Big difference.

Oh watch the video called The Silent Scream. You might change your views on whether babies being aborted feel pain. It is a scientific fact that they do. Another good movie that help you see the light is called "180.". Google it. It is well worth 30 minutes of your time.

The silent scream was disproved ages ago and I seem to recall something about god killing all the 1st born children?? Hmm, I think that was in the bible.

The majority of Democrats are Christian. You'd be in a majority.

You can say that about pretty much any group in the US. "The majority of ______ are Christians." Its an empty statement in a nation where a large majority claim to be Christian. I think the following statement have more significance. The majority of Atheists are democrats and the majority of Christians are Republicans.
In the end it doesn't matter. The question isn't about what's popular. It's about what's right for the questioner.
