I'd suggest 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' in a heartbeat. It's simply amazing - it's full of action, and adventure with some developing romance that carries on into the the rest of the trilogy. It made me laugh out loud, nearly start crying, and kept me wanting more and more long after the last book ended. A disclaimer I'd like to add, though, is it is VERY intense. Including (but not limited to): Genocide, homicide, graphic violent scenes, and if you're super anti-gay (Which I am definitely not) the main character is raised by a homosexual couple. Hope this helps!
