Does anyone have suggestions on beginner bows for a Jr. Archer, or any advice for 9-13yr olds interested in Archery?

Looking for any info to give to youth interested in the sport. Also looking to purchase beginner equipment, unsure what type is best to start with.

well i think you should start with a 15lb compound bow, they are about 20-50 dollars at big 5, dicks sporting goods, sporting stores pretty much.

Thank you! You recommend a compound bow over a traditional bow? I'm not sure the advantages of either type, are both considered as worthy in the sport?

Get an arrow rest that holds the arrow securely on the rest. Everyone struggles with keeping the arrow on the rest in the beginning, and it is no fun at all and adds one more complication. For a couple of dollars you can get a stick-on plastic rest such as a Hoyt Hunter or a Saber that can be stuck to any bow. Finally, go with a very light poundage. Beginners generally do not draw the bow back far enough because arecurve gets progressively harder to pull. You can try http://www2.teamusa.org/USA-Archery.aspx for more information on Junior Archery.

You might try ACADEMY or GANDER MOUNTAIN they handle sports and other things if they are in your area.
