How many ounces are in a cup of water?

I'm trying to make sure that I drink enough water but I neeed to know how many cups a day, I know that I am supposed to have around 54 onces according to my weight and what my doctor has told me

8 to a cup, 64 to a gallon. Water tastes horrible to me, so I drop a lemon or lime wedge into the pitcher
