Was the Mondrag?n the world's first assault rifle?
I was looking at some historical weapons when I came across the Mondrag?n.
Here's what I know about the gun - it was a select-fire rifle developed by a military general named Manuel Mondrag?n in 1887. It fired a 7x57mm bullet and was advanced multiple times throughout the early 20th century.
I know many of you will mention the Sturmgewehr (StG), Fedorov and Ribeyrolle (each are considered early assault rifles). What I would like to know is was the Mondrag?n truly the very first assault rifle?
