Are cousins and 1st cousins the same thing?

Cousins and 1st cousins refer to the same thing though they have a slight difference. 1st cousins refer to those who are closer to you, for instance, the children to your father's brother. On the other hand, cousins can be used to refer to the children of your parent's cousin. In overall though, the term is 'cousin' is used.
