I was a white-haired little kid living on a Chippewa reserve for three years and all the kids let me into their play and into their homes. I became an anthropologist because of that. I had lifesaving spinal surgery at a famous children's hospital. My parents wouldn't pay, so the hospital absorbed the cost. I was born into a democracy and understand how rich freedom is. Teenage boys taught me how to drive. Nobody got hurt. I own my own home in a safe neighbourhood. I have a garden where nobody can boss me around.
