how do you stop trying to control a grown person from harming themselves?

You realize that no matter what, if they are determined to harm themselves, you cannot stop them. You cannot watch them 24/7/365. If you truly believe that they are a danger to themselves, you need to contact the authorities and have them take the person in for a mental health evaluation.

You just do. Inform them that you are not their parent and will no longer be responsible for their well being. Wish them luck and quit.

Look for help, you cant do this on your own. If they are consistent about it i would contact a docter for professional help.

By trying to control them can also make them hurt themselves more,get them help but,never try to control them,its belittling to them and,they lose self respect and,hurt themselves because they feel less of a person,just give them love ,understanding and get them help because they have issues,1/2 of hurting urself is for attention,they need help...
