Why am I so afraid of bugs, insects, or arachnids?

I cannot stand any bug or insect touching me or walking on me. It doesn't matter is it's a butterfly or ant, I panic and hurry to kill it or knock it off. Why am I so afraid???

I don't mind bugs but spiders are my biggest fear.

It is simply a neuro response (forgive me if I misspelled that). Youre body isnt used to that sort of interaction with smaller animals or is simply naturally over cautious.

It's called "self-preservation", an instinct we developed hundreds of thousands of years ago. Some spiders are poisonous and you natural instinct is to fear something that can kill you, it's what has kept the species going for so long. Congrats, you're human :-)

I am not afraid of them but I don't like them. Basically if it is suppose to have more then four legs and less than two I don't care for it.

You probably have a very serious phobia of insects or arachnids. It is possible to over come this with extensive therapy and associating bugs in general with good thoughts and not bad feelings.

Therapy for phobias doesn't need to be extensive, and sometimes can be done without a therapist, but I'd advise you to at least have a friend help, as it's too easy to stop oneself just at the point when one is about to make progress. For more information on this type of therapy, I suggest you follow this link: http://sciencefriday.com/segment/05/25/2012/breaking-out-of-a-web-of-fear.html
Best of luck!
