yes it's mind over matter it is one of the toughest things to do. I quit cold turkey and started going to the gym that will help you cause you will feel to guilty after you work out. I must say I don't know what the tobacco companies are putting in the cigs today but I tried for 2 years and smoke free for 2 months now forget all the fake cigs patches gum ect they don't work just have to be determine and it get's better

Yes, I tried to quit cold turkey....and failed several times. I disagree with the poster who said gum and patches don't work because that's how I finally quit. Doctors DO NOT recommend using nicotine gum and patches at the same time, but I did it anyway. They work on a step down program, and that's what I needed. Good luck.

Kuuipo.... Thankyou for the Greenie.... and one back at you also. I'm trying to quit smoking by tapering off. I'm down to about four or five smokes a day. The less nicotine your body gradually receives. the less it craves and the less you'll smoke. Right now I'm just having a hard time letting go of those last few smokes a day. Sigh..... but I don't give up easy. Yaaay!

Has he tried Chantix? It's supposed to make you not want to smoke.
Report as
Oh yes, it made him half crazy, dreamed about hacking people up, he got in a very dark place.

Yeah, it's not bad after the first month, but you need a really good reason, I used my kids, it'll be 2 years in nov for me, and that's even hanging around my still smoking friends.

Well, I don't smoke, mainly because I'm 15, I like my white pearly teeth and my lungs, and can't stand the smell. But my mom quit the day she found out she was pregnant with my older brother and never went back. She hasn't smoked in 17 years. My dad's work got him to quit with a program, so he hasn't smoked in 4 or 5 years. :3

I tried chantix. Tried it on three separate occasions because I really wanted to stop smoking. Unfortunately, the chantix would make me nauseated for the first couple hours and then I did not feel well the whole rest of the day. Boo-hoo. But I hear it has different side effects for everyone, so maybe I was one of the unlucky ones. :)
