Why do people eat they're French fries with ketchup but not on smashed potatoes

Because mashed potatoes are in a different form so it would taste really different.Plus french fries are crunchy so it taste better and even if their soft I would still put ketchup on it.

What if some one made a French Frie that was not crunchy. Would you put ketchup on it
