Is it illegal for a "server" to ask for social security, place of employment, phone, and license while serving civil documents?
I would tell them to take a hike. If they are law enforcement I would show them my I.D. upon request and that is it. Nobody can compel you to answer those type questions except the ones that already know the answers.
Yes but don't answer they want your info for ill gotten gains. They could rip off your bank account, steal your identity, ect...
It is not right for a server to ask for the details since they do not apply in this case. Unless it is necessary to get the information from you, you should not give it out.
If you're talking about a process server, I think all they need to know is your name. If they served by mistake, that's for you to bring up...not for them to validate with personal info.
