My ex-husband says there is a study proving that Spongebob will lower my children's IQ... has anyone else heard of this study?

If so, was it conducted by a reputable organization? Can anyone with info on this link me? I would really like to see the research.

On the contrary, SpongeBob helped save a child's life! I am not kidding!!!! Right here, seriously, right here in southern california. A 6 year old boy had (still has because of SpongeBob) a younger sibling, who fell into the pool. SpongeBob had just aired how to remove a person (lifeguard style) and save a life. This young 6 year old jumped after his sibling, his mother on the phone, and rescued his brother. It's true. I stand proudly up and hail hail to the SpongeBob! For certain he saved a life, not dismayed one! It's TRUE!

I remember that :) And BTW, SpongeBob is also hilarious :)

I have big grins all over! SkeeterSneakers, if your child is watching SpongeBob, it's not going to hurt his intellect! If anything, it will also help him to know there is a bunch of other creatures living under the sea! Maybe he could be simuilar to Jaque Custeu!

Hi! and yes, SpongeBob is hilarious, especially when you are relaxed and kind of promote the true meaning of learning and laughing at the same time. A Feat within itself! Thanks NAFTA. Big Smiles. I'm more relaxed.

I do not think so... I am no expert but I think it is fine. Just make sure that they do not watch too much of it. I am not an expert, so you shouldn't take the full answer from me... maybe a pro.

I'm pretty sure that is not true!!!!!!! Plus you do realize the age group for that show is 2-11.That show was made for kids, therefore it does not lower a child's IQ!!!!!!!!!!! Plus a cartoon cannot lower a child's IQ!!!!!!!! Well I now know why he is your EX husband!!!!!!

The show was made to attract viewers and sponsors so they can pay their employees.

I'm not saying they would deliberately harm children, but do you really believe they care?
Report as
Well of course they don't care :(

Most of Spongebob's humor goes right over the Child's head. Spongebob has zero to do with a child's intelligence. Sitting all day in front of the TV might.

I heard a study was done on small children that watch spongebob, and it was a group of six kids. I wouldn't worry about :)

Cool, I wasn't really worried.. they don't really watch tv very much, but occasionally I let them watch SpongeBob on netflix, so if there WAS such a study, I just wanted to see if it was reputable... :)

Seriously though, people either love spongebob or hate him. People find something wrong with everything these days.

They say watching too much T.V. will rot your brain.spongebob isn't a good show for kids to watch.spongebob doesn't teach life lessons for kids.SpongeBob SquarePants doesn't have education in it. It's not educational.I'm not sure if the show can lower kids IQ. but I wouldn't let my kids watch it.

Every tv show you watch doesn't have to teach a "life lesson"... Isn't that the point of entertainment?

I'm turning on SpongeBob right now!! Why on earth would SpongeBob have an IQ lowering effect? And why would it only affect kids?? This makes little to no sense at all. And furthermore, what makes SpongeBob soooooo bad as compared to other cartoons? Wouldn't ALL cartoons have this effect?? I call B.S.

If that is true it certainly explains why most tv watchers sit in front of the box with their mouths open.
