SOLVE FOR X: x^2 + 9x + 20 = 0

ALGEBRA

Report as

Just look for the two numbers that add up to 9 and multiply out to 20. So x= 4 and 5.

Report as
Not that simple, you need to used the quadratic formula, sometimes the answer are the negative numbers like in this case.
Report as
Yeah your totally right, I had a brain fart or something, gosh haha
Report as

Ouchy! there goes my brain : (

Report as
Boom! There goes mine :o
Report as
What are these "brains" you speak of
Report as
Hahahahaha
Report as

X= 5 and 4

Report as
No, -4 and -5.
Report as

x=-4, -5

Report as
Yes. At last someone who knows what he is doing.
Report as
Look at you, being all smart! I got 4,-5 >__<
Report as
Unstable. Plug those numbers in the original equation an see what you get.
Report as
I don't understand how it can be (x-4)(x-5) because that comes out as x^2-9x+20, while (x+4)(x+5) gives me are starting point x^2+9x+20.
Report as
N/m just noticed it has =0 at the end.
Report as

x^2 + 9x + 20 = Headache

Report as

Omg I jsut laerned tihs and its egihter 5 or 4. It's fatcroing

Report as
Neither.
Report as
You didn't learn it.
Report as

Solve using the quadratic formula. And the answers are x1 = -4; x2 = -5. Not 4 and 5.

Report as
Right.
Report as

You have stumped me my freind and I'm good at math!

Report as

x^ + 9x + 20 = 0
(x + 4)(x + 5) = o
So x + 4 = 0 and/or x + 5 = 0
- 4 = 0 - 4. - 5 = 0 - 5
x = -4 and/or x = -5
You could use the Quadratic Equation
but that is too difficult to write with my
iPhone.

Report as
It can't be -4 and -5, otherwise the middle of it would be -9x instead of +9x, right?
Report as
Check:
For -4. (-4) + 9(-4) + 20 =
16 + (-36). + 20 =
-20 + 20 = 0
Similarly for -5
Thanks for asking and for following me. I'm following you.
Report as
Ok I just noticed it has =0 at the end
Report as
You are correct Claire, the 2 answers are negative. I was going to try the quadratic formula, but, yes, it's difficult with an iPhone.
