Is it just me or are people getting meaner?

Before, when you saw some stranger at a store or something, they used to say hi or at least smile.they dont do that to me or to anyone else anymore.its just something i noticed.are ppl just super busy nowadays?

The simple truth is that people are just plain scared of what may happen interacting with a stranger. A look at the evening news on any given day will give you sense of that.

All you can do is smile at someone you pass, offer a kind word whenever you can, and be one that does not advance fear of the world.

your getting older, they are more likely to say hi to a younger kid, whenever I say hi I get dirty looks.

I know! No one says hi, helps out anymore, and just smiles and waves! It's like my family (both my parents' sides) are the only ones that do that anymore..

its sad. a smile once in a while changes a lot of things. i thought ppl might be doing that to me because im a Muslim, but i realized their doing it to non-Muslims too.

Manners have become pass so yeah, people feel like they can be rude all they want. It's all part of that "express yourself" crap we've been teaching kids for 20+ years.

I don't think people are getting meaner, they just are not as nice as before, meaning; they have not really changed but what they choose to express has changed and the reasons for that can vary. Try just a little harder to get a smile from someone and they will usually cave. Also try a little harder to be kinder yourself, you will feel better about yourself for trying to make our world a kinder place.

People are ruder now a days with the way the economy has been going and after 9/11 america did change, people's fears have gotten the better of them. Most people are finding themselves in survivor mode, not trusting thier situations or the people around them. I understand it because you really don't know how some people will react to a simple hello now a days, so when I go to pass someone I just make eye contact and smile, they usually smile back. I don't feel people are intending to do it, they just feel the weight of the world on thier shoulders, with money being so tight, people losing thier homes everyday from a situation that is no fault of thier own, worrying about how thier going to feed thier kids and pay thier bills, let alone some emergency come up they can't even think of being able to cover, and politicians fighting each other for power and using people's fears for political points threatening some great threat around the world or right next door. They even threaten you with other americans, one side says if the other has control the country will actually be controlled by some muslim terrorist group the president supposedly belongs to so everyone has to be muslim and live by muslim law, then the other side says if the other side gets control we'll all be under control of money grubbing corporations who will kill us all without a second thought if it improved thier bottom line, so people can't even trust the government in any form to be out for the individuals betterment. People are scared and worried, people are panicking about what the guy next to them might be up to. All the time trying to just survive the best they can in thier own immediate situations. That kind of fear can get the best of anyone. That's why I just smile at people, it's a natural reaction for someone to smile back, and smiling even for a moment out of habit does relieve stress even if it's just for a moment. So just smile it benefits us all, and don't worry this too shall pass and soon enough people will be back to saying hello again it's just up to those of us that remember what that hello feels like to keep it up so others can remember it when that peace comes back. Just keep smiling and don't let the world's chaos get you down.

I'm a Muslim and i though ppl were like this only towards me but i realized its also towards non-Muslims.Just because some ppl did something stupid doesn't mean all Muslims are like that.some days ago, Chicago downtown was closed for a few days because three terrorists were caught trying to bomb something. and guess what? they weren't even Muslim.they weren't even from another country.of course if they were Muslim, the media would make such a big deal about it i would've heard sooner instead of three days later.ppl try to find an excuse to blame Muslim for everything. i think thats unfair. my point is, i wish ppl wud just live in peace and treat everyone fairly.
