If a person is used to drinking every night as a stress relief, but quits cold turkey, what can replace the drinking in a healthy way?

Ok, only positive remarks please.

How much do you or a person drink a night? If you have 2 or glasses of wine or something a night it can be very beneficial. On the other hand if your stress relief is a blackout then it's a problem. try exercise, hobbies are great, go out & enjoy mother nature, join a group, club, church, pursue things that you've always wanted to try or do. Volunteer at a VA, homeless shelter food kitchen anything will work--socialize

Thank you... And no it was never to the point of blacking out, or passing out or even vomiting or not remembering things... But still, it was too much!

I'm just curious as to whether or not the drinking is heavy to the point of getting plastered every night, or if it's just a couple few beers. Honestly, if the person isn't getting drunk everyday, then there shouldn't be much of a problem

There is such a thing as responsible drinking, which I was no part of :( I'm pretty sure I learned my lesson, but as of right now I have no desire to have a drink at all. Maybe one day, but not today

I know what ya mean, as a kid/teen I did all kindsa stupid things, no desire to go back. Learned my lesson. Now I dont do anything cept drink, and I barely do that. Woohoo for change

Thanks... But it wasn't just a few... Maybe a few too many...

Well, if the comfort zone was sitting around and drinking beers, then something different and "non-comfort zone" should be attempted. Also, the ACTUAL desire to want to change, that is the REAL factor here.

I'm here almost ALL the time and always willing to talk about this sort of stuff. I was a 17 year user of an array of substances, especially alcohol, and I've been clean and sober for almost 10 months now :)

Thanks nafta;) I have overcome a lot of addictions myself... But this started becoming my newest addiction and it had to stop.... I feel depressed... But motivated at the same time... I just needed some advice on what to replace this with now... Something that's not going to possibly end up bad if continued!

Usually when a person quits drinking cold turkey they crave sweet things to replace the sugar from the alcohol.
