Why is the bible so hard to read ? I tried reading the first couple do pages & noticed they talk like Shakespeare or something then I think

everything has some deeeeeeep meaning or something ? I would need the help of 4 psychiatrists 4 therapists 4 priests 4 professors & 1 doctor to figure out how read it ! wow it's hard to read with that deep meaning stuff, I don't have religious friends to help or have time to go to church so how can I figure it out on my own ? Everyone, to varying degrees, struggles in trying to understand the Bible. Even after nearly 2,000 years of church history, there are some Bible verses and passages that leave even the most brilliant of Bible scholars speculating as to the exact and correct meaning. It must be made clear that God did not make His Word unclear.
The message of God's Word is perfectly clear. The reason that the Bible can sometimes be hard to understand is that we are all fallen beings - sin clouds and distorts our understanding and leads us to twist the Bible to our own liking.Trying to understand the Bible can sometimes be a difficult task, but with God's help, it is possible. Remember, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God's Spirit indwells you (Romans 8:9). The same God who "breathed out" Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17), is the same God who indwells you and will open your mind to the truth and understanding of His Word if you rely on Him. This is not to say that God will always make it easy. God desires us to search His Word and to fully explore its treasures. Understanding the Bible is not always easy, but it is always eminently rewarding.http://www.gotquestions.org/understand-the-Bible.html

True very true! And before you start to read, always ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes that you might see, and open your mind that you might understand and then ask the Spirit to open your heart that you might receive! The Holy Spirit is the spirit that was left by Jesus for us to have His help. He will be your therapist, psychiatrist, your doctor, your lawyer, and your helper in whatever you need. He is also the one you call on to help you break bad habits as well. He is there for you, call on Him you will be surprised how much you can learn.

Be what you want to be, and read what you want to read. Nothing wrong with that! I don't understand it either. It's a very hard book to read and who really knows the real meaning of the words anyways??? It's all he said "he" said anyways.

Find a different version. Like your probably reading king James version. I would recommend like new living translation. There all the same bible no matter what version but they just have a different talking structure. Like king James version is like shakespeare to read. But something such as the new living translation is easier to read and like how modern people talk. And is it weird that I'm 14XD?

Were you reading the King James version? It is very difficult to read. If you are new to the Bible i suggest you get The Message translation or The Good News Bible translation. The Message is especially easy to understand. If you are very young there are also translations, including grahic or 'comic' style and magazine format Bibles specifically for older children and teens.

If you download the EGW app you will have an excellent commentary library on the basic story of the Bible which will be a tremendous help. Start with Patriarchs and Prophets :)

You can encourage the NKJV, it replaces the thees and thous and the such with regular English.

Are you SDA?

The concerns I was trying to address were the deep and confusing stuff. There are many Bible commentaries that try to explain in great intellectual detail and confusion and I have discovered that the simplicity and clarity of deep is to be found there. :)

Skip the psychiatrists, but I would recommend getting help from at least 2 therapists, 4 professors with doctorate degrees, and 4 pastors with an MDiv. Usually this can be in the form of books. Perhaps start with a book entitled "How to Study the Bible" or take a BS101 course at a local college, perhaps as a guest audit by permission of the professor off-record.

Please spare Shakespeare of such infamy of comparing his works with bible. One single ACT of "Hamlet" outweighs the entire volumes of the books called bible in intellect & literary grandeur. As for the bible, you couldn't have asked for any worse in terms of a lack of intellectual rigour.

Now, I read the bible and I find that its "god so loved the world" that he made up his mind to damn the most of mankind in a heinous torture chamber he's devised to punish even the dead into death! May be that is why, the bible has been the real persecutor. The bible burned heretics, built dungeons, founded the inquisition, led the crusades and trampled upon all the liberties of man.

The KJV is actually written in elegant Late Middle English and was meant to be read aloud in a style similar to Shakespeare. Perhaps this is one reason I never really enjoyed Shakespeare. He was great for his day, but I don't speak that language.
Report as
@jk-can't stand Shakespeare personally. Bleh. Boring, confusing, and mostly all tragedies.
Report as
Well, thank you both. And I respect your reasons to your beliefs about Shakespeare.

Maybe you should consider taking one of those classes and discover the truth about the character of the God of the Universe and the truth about the teachings of Scripture which are sometimes even misunderstood by whole churches :)

It strikes me that god - if there's one - would write or inspire a book which not only non-believers, but also the believers, ministers & theologians can not agree upon!! To believe such is not only to perceive god as infinitely inapt but also to slander against the very idea of god, don't u think?

Just read a different version like NIV, MSG, NET, or NLT. They're much more modern and easy to understand. These versions make me WANT to read the Bible. :)
