Htc One XL-I downloaded heaps of music from my laptop to my new mobile and all the songs skip like a scratched cd. New phone tho

It is highly possible that the synchronization was not done properly. Another reason for this could be the compatibility/format of the two devices. Try uninstalling the songs and copy them afresh.
