What does "turn the a/c up/down" mean to you?

Ex: when someone says "turn the a/c up", do you take that to mean make it warmer or colder?

Report as

I always say "up" (meaning colder).. HEY, now that I THINK about it, I say "up" for heat, too (meaning hotter).. I guess people better read my body language.. dang blondes.. Lol..lol..

It's confusing isn't it?! When I say 'turn the a/c down' I mean make it colder, because logically speaking turning the a/c down would make it colder. This has actually sparked an arguement in my house! :/

Yes, Ruby.. that IS logical, and I have had the same argument in reverse.."why is it so HOT in here?" you said turn the A/C up, so I turned it from 72 to 78... "NOOOOO, when I said up, I meant make the air, oh, sassenfrassen NM.. Set the damn thing at 68!!" Well, why didn't you just SAY so? lol..

a/c means are conditioning, which is cold air. So turning it up would make it colder.

I know what a/c means. :) I'm a logical thinker, so when I'm asked to turn the a/c up, I literally turn it up. Just curious to get others' opinions.

If you say turn the heat up, you want it hotter. So if you want the a/c up, you want it colder.

I always was told that turning it up made it hotter, by turning it to click off.... Turning the ac down would mean turning it so it would get super cold...

LOL, its funny you should ask, because this confuses me. To me whether, its heat or air, up means hotter down means colder.

Me too! This apparently causes confusion in my household. I think logically, so up to me means up in temperature and vice versa.

Turn a/c up to me means colder and down means as in its to cold make it less cold but I know it should be the other way around

A/C is air conditioning, so by saying turn it up would mean making it cooler.
