Well, the first thing I'd do is ask your mom why she doesn't want you to have a guinea pig... I asked my Mom a while ago if we could get a dog (after doing plenty of research) but she said no because it turned out she was allergic. Your mom may have some reason you don't know of.

I totally agree blah22 and ohemmgeezers. If you've had a pet that you've lost interest in in the past, your mom probably won't want that to happen again. Even if that hasn't happened, it does all the time so why should this be any different?

Another thing is to ask yourself why you actually want a guinea pig. Is it just a toy? Or would you view it more as a companion? Even though guinea pigs are small they require the same attention as a bigger, more expensive animal. Example: we went on vacation and left our animals at an exotic pet store, when we came back, the two corn snakes were dead. The iguana and reticulated python were fine, but only because the caretaker had deemed them more "valuable" and therefore neglected the animals of less monetary value. Your mom doesn't want something like that to happen to your guinea pig.

Now, if you are still sure you want to deal with the squeaking wheel at night, cleaning the cage every weekend, changing the food and water daily, and holding it often. Then prove it to your mom by helping someone else take care of their animals. Volunteering at a shelter would be a good idea as well. guineapig3 also mentioned something important, if you ask to adopt a guinea pig from a shelter, you are not only asking to do something good, you are also proving that you want the animal as a pet. Not as a cute little baby. If you're asking for an older, possibly not as good-looking pet, your mom has more reason to believe you when you say you'll "always take care of it".

The most important thing is this, it is ALWAYS better to wait. Only good can come of it, and you'll be much happier waiting rather than having to give your pet away. Maybe your mom just wants to see if you are willing to wait.

Maybe get some books from the library about them and read up and let your mom know you are ready to be responsible, also do this by keeping your room clean and doing homework and other things you're supposed to be doing so that she knows your being serious about this and responsible. Good luck

Show that you're rsponsible. If you get a pet, it's a life in your hands. To show that you're responsible, do all your chores, homework, everything. But it might take a while. It took me four years to convince my parents to let me get a rat.

Ask her why she doesn't want a guinea pig. Show her pictures of guinea pigs and also tell her why you want a guinea pig. And do a lot of research and prove to her that you are really interested. Also consider adopting a guinea pig from and animal shelter.

I'm in the same situation right now. I've had hamsters, but guinea pigs are so cute and more gentle. I made a presentation, feel free to use it as a convincer. http://prezi.com/jqvxkgnuklaj/all-about-guinea-pigs/
