Okay, I'm just going to say what I have observed over the past year because once upon a time I called myself emo. So, I've come to the conclusion there is no such thing as emo. It has been wrongly stereotyped for so long, it's just not correct anymore. Originally, emo was what scene is today. The same style, just more black. Also, the bands that people call emo were associated, which were very emotional and deep, a lot of them screamo/post hardcore. Since many depressed people listen to those bands, such as self-harmers, emo was then seen as people that not only wore a lot of black and wore band-T's and skinny jeans, but also depressed, suicidal cutters. Now that's what emo is seen and stereotyped to be, but really it's not a real thing anymore. Just another label. The real spirit of emo now lives in scene, which always was the brighter emo. Now scene is all colors, not just bright colors with black. So really... Emo is dead and has no meaning anymore. It all lives in scene, a label less people know about since emo has become so popular, but now it is dead and not many people have been able to see that.
