Is there any hope left for America or have we just completely lost our way.

our government is in shambles our leaders can't lead we are broke and we are being overrun by illegals can any of this ever be fixed?

Report as
Jhamilton918

You are viewing this thing through a false lens. Look back at history and gain some perspective.

1. We are only a little over 230+ years old, in "nation years" we are still very young. nations much older than us still have never had the power we command, and still went through growing pains. This is just another chapter in our nations history...but nothing points to it being the final one.

2. Our government is not in shambles. You should have been alive back in the day when if our representatives didn't see eye to eye they would try to shoot or stab each other. We may be very polarized right now, but this kind of thing has been working itself out since our birth.
Opposing beliefs of strong centralized government authority versus small and or limited government authority.

3. Our leaders are being very influenced by the fringe wings of their parties. Both are trying to establish new identities, as the nation begins to mature. We have a good man in office right now, in spite of whatever faults he may have...he still wants what is best for the nation.
We are expanding our scope of what our leaders should be, and with new technology and new nations being born and globalization becoming more and more of a reality of the future. Leaders must reevaluate what both parties stand for.

4. We aren't being overrun with "illegals." This nation was forged by immigrants, that is just the truth. We all (except for my people) are from somewhere else. But we all form a nation unlike any other ever seen. We share no common blood, religion, color, race, or history, but what we share is the ideal that all of us are created equal and endowed by whatever creator we choose, to our lives, our liberty, and right there you see what no other nation offers...the chance to pursue our own happiness.
Immigrants made this nation strong, each generation of new blood weaving into the previous one making us more than we were.
What is being said of the Latinos was also said once about the Irish, Italians, Jews, Polish, etc...

I respect your opinion but I don't share them . I do agree this country has had it's far share of turmoil but it seems that for at least the last two decades we have forgotten the lessons learned from them . I also don't belive that we have a good man in office he is not a leader. My personal opinion is we haven't hade a true leader and a great and deep thinker a man of true conviction since Ronald Regan. And by your comment my people either you are a native american or a blue blood. my family is immigrant stocky dads side from Greece my moms from france but they did it legally through Ellis island . And once they got here they worked hard without social programs to start and build there lives. And I don't have any problem with others who come here the right way and do the same.

I am one-fourth Cherokee and one-fourth Creek, the rest is French Canadian. My maternal family took the path of "legal" citizenship when they immigrated from Canada.
You don't have an accurate picture of the leader that Ronald Reagan was then. If President Reagan was alive today, he couldn't make it in the new Tea Party Republican era.
Reagan raised taxes, he expanded government, and he passed laws for social entitlements. Look it up...debt ceiling...he raised it seventeen times! Yet President Obama tries to do it once and all hell breaks loose.
If you think Reagan was our last good President, that only proves what little you know of your nation's history.
I think that unless you educate yourself on your nation's path and history...you can't stand on any authority as to its present condition. No offense but you have no idea of our past and what brought us here. Fox News is rhetoric not education, what do you know of your nation?

Who are your representatives? How many electoral votes is your state worth? Can you name the Amendments?
What year was "in God we trust" put on the Money?
Did you know that all of the original colonies were not of the same faith? Thus we are NOT a Christian nation!
Without Googling any of that...can you name that?

How can you concern yourself with a nation you are ignorant to? Like I said, no offense but you and people like you need to go to school and take some high tier history and political science courses and then come to me and speak of my country.

It's a matter of materialism my friend. If you think society is willing to give up many material possessions in exchange for a universe energy balance then America has a chance. But this universal energy balance will sound like hippie bs or some disneyland fairytale malarky to society. But I know it will save America, possibly all mankind. So I guess alls we can do is hope people will open their eyes and realize what's needed instead if what they want.

used to be that if you could survive a boat trip...you were an American citizen.
There have been MANY paths to citizenship since the birth of this nation, black people came here in chains...but today they are no less American!
My people were invaded, relocated and marginalized...but today we stand no less American than you!
What right way...there are many ways!

If you can make it here, work and grow this nation as you grow your family here, you are one of us. The brown people aren't your problem...

That's absolutely right!!!! If have many Hispanic friends that are here legally that want these illegals gone as well. They can't work and pay taxes and do things the " right " way and compete with their prices. They're killing our work force.
Report as
Jhamilton918
There is no 'right" way.

YOUR way is the way you are talking about and technically YOUR way was given to you be people that stole the land not earned it. YOUR way is historically inaccurate as anything close to the "right" way of being a citizen of this nation.
Latinos are not killing our workforce, the shrinking of our middle class is killing our workforce.

You never did answer me about socialism last time Charlie...why has it never happened?
What final thing is necessary according to Karl Marx to make a nation truly socialist, and the real reason there has NEVER been any socialist nation?
Report as
Jhamilton918
@ohdatguy.

You don't get to choose what is relevant by what is happening now. The past still plays out everyday, and if you cannot understand the origins of where you were, you will never see where we are going.
Your present world view is a reflection of you ignoring the nation's history.
Report as
Jhamilton918 who is talking color here? No one but you. Illegals can be white. All races have been terrorized, enslaved and sold. Skandinavians were taken to the middle east. It's a sad and ugly part of history. The only right way is the legal way. Many paths lead to that but that's it. I have friends of all colors, which is only skin deep. Let's look a deeper shall we?
Report as
Jhamilton918
You and I both know he isn't talking about European illegals when he uses the word "illegals" lets not pretend he is being anything other than what he is.
He wouldn't notice a Polish immigrant he notices the brown immigrant. Don't pretend to be all PC about this, it is disingenuous and completely dishonest.
Report as
PC? I'm so not PC. I'm not convinced that the people that come from Western Europe can swim across the big blue ocean. They have to take a plane. This isn't about color. You have no idea what race anyone is here. Just ask people that own farms and live by the southern boarder. I have close friends from South America and Mexico that I love dearly. All I ask is everyone follow the law.
Report as
Jhamilton918
Do you always drive the speed limit? That is a law, and I guarantee you that nobody follows it...
I understand what the law says, but there is a reality of what we can enforce. We can't stop illegal immigration, but we can make an easier path to legal citizenship! That path is WAY too hard and expensive, a broken system that we can do better on.
Look at history, again tons of laws that say one thing but in reality people continue to do another. Slavery, Prohibition, Drugs, Prostitution....all these things still exists in reality even though law says they shouldn't.
Illegal immigration is the same way!
Report as
Actually I do try to follow the speed limits... And tell me about a messed up system... I have spent too many hours and money in that system and long lines at the immigration offices. I'm all for that change. We do agree on that. I'm certainly not against immigration or I would be the ultimate hypocrite.

We will be a lot better off, if we can get everyone out who think illegals are the problem. The problem is the rich are pulling all the strings with their campaign donations and lobyists, and then spreading lies and ignorance on their news channels. The rich only care about the rich, and I dont care how smart you are a CEO does not deserve to make 100-10,000 times more than the employees on the bottom who actually do all the work require to run a company.

I agree with your point on the point about the rich to a certain point. But being rich is a dream most have and some have accomplish that doesn't make you bad so being rich is not the problem. But your correct about how some rich people have bought there influence over matters that impact the whole of Americans but that is the gear that runs the government .has been and always will be america can't be run by the poor.
Report as
Jhamilton918
Not the poor, but he middle class.
Driving force for our economy during its best times of growth was not the rich or the poor, but when the middle class was expanding.
The middle class make the most jobs, spur the most growth, and spend the most money when correctly incentivised they are the strongest drivers for an economy.
Making the rich richer until they drop their pants and "trickle down" on us all never works.
Report as
Having illegals draining our funds, using our schools, hospitals etc doesn't create monetary issues??!! Really??!! I'm an immigrant but I did it right. Do you have any idea how it chaps me to know that if a person comes over the boarders illegally can use my hospital without paying and I, who went through a costly, timeconsuming process will be paying for their care??!!! And the rich, who worked hard to get where they are are the problem? I don't think so.
Report as
Jhamilton918
The rich aren't getting rich through hard wok, but are being given tax breaks! That isn't hard work or sweat of their brow kind of thing. Donal Trump couldn't have gotten rich anywhere but here, we offer bankruptcy protections and tax payer capital to leverage the rich to keep people like him from defaulting on his debts.
Legally born citizens walk in and get free treatment as well, are you against that? Also, it isn't free...the cost is simply passed on to those of us with health insurance...that is why two Tylenol cost $35 dollars at an impatient pharmacy.
You choose to follow the steps to become a legal citizen, that was a choice YOU made. You get protections as a citizens that undocumented immigrants do not!
What would be your solution is they walked into your waiting room dying? They are still people...we can't just let them die.
Reality is that we can't build walls high enough, or pass laws strict enough, we have to come up with solutions to immigration that make more tax paying citizens.
Report as
I never said let them die! That's a twisted way of looking at what I said. My kids, born here have been turned away at the dr for not having insurance at the time. Clinics run by the government demand $75 pay upfront now. I refuse to get free treatment. Care is like freedom, it is never free. Someone has to pay. I came from a socialist nation, even goverment officials and ambassadors just live next to teachers or bank cashiers. Everyone is pretty much the same. No one on the street, unless they choose it. Everyone has medical insurance through the government but they are taxed through the roof. That's where we're headed. If that's what you want then great! My nation is taxing it's people more and more. Dept is killing us. I don't want that for my kids here... Alot of millionaires were just lucky, fell into $. But many worked very hard to get there. I struggle just like most. So it's not that I am trying to preserve my own rich life. I don't claim to know the solution. But blaiming the rich isn't right. They keep much of our economy running...
Report as
Jhamilton918
That is the lie they keep telling and you for some reason keep believing. The rich to not drive the economy.
The working middle class are the strongest drivers of any successful economy.
The more expendable income held by the middle class, the better off we all are.
The rich do NOT move the economy, they do not create the most jobs, they do not trickle down on anyone.
Report as
So you're saying the middle class is building, the middle class is hiring new workers. It's us little people paying peoples salary and providing health insurance. I'm not all for those huge bonuses but loading bigger taxes is not a good answer. They'll stop hiring. They won't have $ to.
Report as
Jhamilton918
Small business owners, people opening their own shops and stores...the middle class is the driver for economic growth, not the abundantly wealthy.
"They" have had eight years of massive corporate tax breaks, record profits, and the lowest tax rates in the last eight years and still have not hired. If we are standing at 9% while giving them every advantage under the sun and they still fail to turn their profits into new jobs, that by definition is not capitalist. We have not allowed the invisible hand of the market to dictate profits but we have in effect placed our finger on the scale in their favor and received nothing for it.
Report as
You're right about that but the small buisness owners will get slammed with heavy taxes under the new plan. That is what scares me. The abundantly wealthy aren't the cause of the issue alhough they often fail to help fix it.
Report as
Where are the jobs the rich are making, I don't see any, people keep saying they are the job producers so we cant tax them, they have had the lowest tax rate in quite awhile for the last 10 years, where are all those jobs at? I'm not saying take all their money, but if you control 50 percent if the wealth in the country, you should pay 50 percent of the bills. If you don't want too, then pay your workers more. I see no reason that the rich should make 100-10,000 times more than the people on the bottom, the people who make it possible for any company to run.

And your gonna sit there and tell me an executive works just as hard sitting behind his desk as the factory working standing out on the floor in the heat, working his ass to the grindstone, for barely enough to pay his bills. I'm sorry I don't think that is any where near as close.
Report as
I said SOME of the wealthy worked hard to get there. They also carry most of the responsibility on their backs.
Report as
I didn't say they don't deserve more, but let's give them 2 million a year and spread the other 18 million amongst the workers in the company.
Report as
Mcolston... Amen to that!! I totally agree. Allow them alot but who needs to make $20 mill a year? Seriously. I'm just worried about us suffering the taxing that my family over seas has. It's just not a good thing for the economy.

Lets be clear.
I am not saying that all Republicans are racist, but lets be honest that if you are a homophobic racist...you are probably voting Republican. You aren't casting the ballot for the brown President asking to raise the tax ceiling three times, while extolling the virtue of a white President that did the exact same thing 18 times and the last one that did it 7!
You can't look at bands of Tea Party signs showing the President with a bone through his nose, and as a monkey and say that this has nothing to do with race! Be real here...
Report as
I'm not saying there aren't racists there. Sure there are. And who said I only know one black Tea partier?? Racism is sadly often manifested in conservatist groups. On the other hand I'm actually against deviding the Republican party in two with this formation of the Tea Party. It is creating a major problem so nothing gets done. Like a cat chasing his own tail all day instead of catching the mouse to keep himself alive. Very frustrating...

At least there you don't get to drain their systems if you don't follow the rules. This issue gets me every time. Enough political correctness, it's time to take the bull by the horn.
