How to memorizing drug names?

I have a really hard time memorizing the side effects of drugs. Indication, and nursing interventions are not a problem. What is the best way to memorize side effects of drugs? I don't think acronyms would be good because with so many drugs, I will have so many acronyms that I won't be able to remember which acronyms are for what drugs. This has happened to me before. Please help me! I'm studying for the EXIT HESI for the BSN in the Nursing program. Please help!

First you should try memorizing two to three at a time since you cannot retain the information all at once, and review those previously learned to keep them fresh. Group similar drugs by classifying them with their side effects and try to visualize them with images that will make you remember them. You can also make use of a flash card system in a color code and putting the drug name in front and side effects at the back. Good luck.

This is simple, but it works. Write the name and side effects down over and over. It will stick in your head.

I like to group my meds - for example most b/p meds have similar side effects but ACE inhibitors have the same side effects so I learned the side effects for each of the different groups. There are always oddball medications out there that have random side effects - but generally there are only a few. Also - at least for me - nursing considerations are closely tied to side effects.
