Why do my clothes smell weird after washing and drying them? What can I do to fix this?

Lately I have noticed that my clothes smell strange after washing/drying them. Is there somthing that I can put in my washer or dryer to fix this?

It could be that they were left in the washer too long before switching and they smell like mildew. Be sure to not let them sit for more than a few hours.

Try rewashing and a laundry fragrance during the rinse cycle (you have to set an alarm so you catch it at the right time). I love Beach Days from the Good Home Co. http://www.goodhomestore.com/0013be.html

Then, as folks above suggest, add a scented dryer sheet.

If they still smell funky than you should think about getting a new washer or having your water checked.

Good luck!

You should get some of that Downy lavender - vanilla liquid fabric softener and the matching dryer sheets. Use them both. They worked great when I had that problem.

Add nice-smelling softener. And dry your clothes right after washing them, do not wait too long!

You can try 2 things 1. They make washing machine cleaner, you put it in the washer and run it through a complete cycle or 2. Try putting some ammonia in the water when you wash your clothes, just add it along with the detergent into the wash cycle. Both work well. also make sure to completely dry your clothes quickly after washing them, especially during summer months

Try using some fabric softner in your washing machine and the sooner you get your cloths out of the washer and into the dryer the better. Sometimes if they sit in the washer to long they can get kinda sour smelling.

I used to have the same problem. I bought some of those Downy lavender - vanilla dryer sheets and the matching liquid fabric softener, used them both in the wash, dry. This worked great.

Mine did that and after a few loads of vinegar powder detergent and softener it finally went away. Try using some vinegar in each load you wash. After awhile the smell should go away. Then you can stop using it.

Try presoaking in apple cider vinegar and water.
Use about 16oz per washload..let soak for about 2hrs spin out wash as usual. Good for removing mildew odor. I've heard of doing the same with mouthwash but vinegar is cheaper.

Hi E! How's my girl doing ? Well. It could be a certain item ( certain material) of one of your items that left a residue in your dryer. Does your water smell funny? Do you leave them in washer too long? Try gain detergent and softener. Amazing. You can still smell it on a coat ( or something you wouldn't wash after one wearing ), a week later ! How are you hanging in there??

You need to clean your washing machine. Every month or two, you are supposed to dump in bleach and not put anything in - run it on hot for a cycle.

Especially if you have a front load washing machine - they have a tendency to not fully drain, and mold/ mildew develops which I bet is happening here.
