Is it illegal to fist fight ?

The law regarding the issue of fist fight differs from state to state but in all 50 states it is legal to defend yourself from any physical attacks by using reasonable force. The best thing is to familiarize yourself with the laws of your state. But if two people decide to settle a dispute through a fist fight, neither of them can press charges against the other.

If you threw the first punch, you could be charged with assault. Even if you were defending yourself and end up taking too far and really give the guy a beating, you can still be charged with assault.
