It's not the most pleasant experience in the world, but it's not all that bad either. If you are also getting a pap smear, he will insert a spectrum (you can request a small one) in your vagina and collect a sample using a big cotton swab. This takes about 1 min. For the pelvic exam, he will stick his fingers (gloved, of course) inside, and push on your abdomen. This also only takes about a min, and it will all be over quickly. Good luck!

Well 1- calm down.. if he is a good doc then he will explain what hes doing before he does it. You could even explain your nervous and ask him to explain before he does anything.
They will put a tool in you.. Use a q tip to swauve tissue.. Put his hand inside you while putting pressure on your stomach to check you uterine wall. Then usually will check your breasts for lumps.. That is a regular paps smear.. Not sure about pelvic exam... Hope this is helpful. Oh and also... It is normal to cramp after a paps smear.

What was this person thinking before he got his degree in this field, wierd to me although I know they're needed out there.

I think most people in that field have had someone whose life was majorly impacted because of an exam (example: someone has an abnormal pap finds out they have cancer & because they cause it soon enough they live through it.)... But I agree WAY weird. & I would not have a male doc. =/ just awkward!
