Why do people get SO upset about fireworks?! I am a dispatcher & people call freaking out complaining about neighbors popping fire works.

I could understand maybe after midnight being upset. Why is it such a big deal to people. :(

Report as

Because when people are drunk and setting them off (and lets face it even when they are sober), they can be extremely dangerous. Also if someone lives in an area where there hasn't been much rain, they can be a fire hazard as well.

My neighbor keeps shooting of rockets and stuff, and last year they kept hitting the side of my house. This year, so far they've all managed to go up in the sky where they are supposed to be going, but we're still worried about having the roof set on fire or something.

People complain about the noise & its TWICE a year. I just think its ridiculous.. Its understandable if theyre being stupid about it, but I literally had a guy call screaming at me because of the fireworks SHOW the city held that was safe & they had a permit
Report as
Well... can't help ya with the noise complaints. Though to be sure it sometimes bothers me as well, but I would never consider calling the police over it.

@Obieceedee - thank you!! :)
Report as
Thats my thing ... We get tons of calls & people arent even nice. They start screaming saying theyr shooting effing fireworks... & have had some people threaten to go shoot someone over it!
Report as
Yup. Jobs can sometimes suck. oh well. Sephira? XD !

Tbh I am just killing time until I get to go home asking questions on ask. Not intending to tick people off.. Which obviously did. I am sorry. :)

To some people it is.

Anna- its only illegal in some areas... & its 2 times a year.... its so rude to act like your going to die if you have to listen to a few fireworks.... Saywhat- I agree with you
Report as

i mean it's not like someones playing loud music, it's just fireworks.....its part of the holiday!
Report as
annaruby
1) Fireworks can be much louder than music..
2) It's not my fault SOME people are bothered by it. It's usually not a few fireworks, it normally on for a while. It may not be a big deal to you, but it COULD be dangerous and it could also be keeping people up at night. You don't know the details of their situation.. I'd never call the police, but I'm just saying OTHER people are allowed to make a noise complaint if they want to.
Report as
Yeah.... Theyre allowed. But its ridiculous. :o ... & they dont have to be rude

They're noisy- the fireworks AND the crazy drunk people setting them off. & Like Sephira said ^^ they CAN be dangerous. *Also, they scare people's pets. Last night some neighbors were doing these sparkler fire cracker things and my & everyone else's dogs were going crazy.

Then comfort your dog... It isnt that serious..... & people mostly call about the noise not bc they think its dangerous & are sooo rude to me about it like its my fault.
Report as
annaruby
The thing is, I shouldn't HAVE to bring my dogs in to comfort them. And I shouldn't HAVE to put in earbuds. It's the neighbors who shouldn't be noisy and inconsiderate. If they want to see fireworks, they can go see them at a show. You seem to only be aware of the rude people who call in, but you're completely ignoring the rude people who are actually making the noise.
Report as
annaruby
Also, this IS your job. You shouldn't be so immature about it. They're rude, so what? Deal with it. Rude people come along with all sorts of jobs. You have to learn to deal with it & to not complain.
Report as
1st... Its 2 times a year... Its really not that inconsiderate!!!!! 2nd ... I dont care if people complain im just wondering why its a big deal to them & there is absolutely no reason to cuss & scream at someone who is just doing their job.... Im not being childish.. Its childish for people to scream cuss & threaten someone over being in the holiday spirit & enjoying things with their family
Report as

I think it is (kind of) inconsiderate. I get that it's a holiday, but they are ignoring everyone else's feelings. I know they shouldn't be rude, but you and I have no control over that. That's just how people are.. I'm not ticked off, it's totally fine. I understand my dog isn't dying out there or anything, it's really only an inconvenience that some people take to an extreme, and then call the cops because they get so irritable.
Report as
annaruby
I agree it's an overreaction, but I don't COMPLETELY blame them for being annoyed.
Report as
Yeah. I see both sides of it. :) really people scream at me for nothing ALL the time ... But tonight in 2.5 hrs we have taken over 800 calls... & over 75% are fireworks calls & almost every one wants to cuss me out. Lol... *sighs* at least its job security. Hehe
Report as
annaruby
Hah I'm sorry. Like you said, at least the fireworks are only for twice a year.
Report as
Yeah. :) tonight was the worst.. We will get calls for a couple nights but not as bad.

What Sephira said. I agree. There are drunk lunatics out there. I would think being a dispatcher you would understand what kind of things could happen.

If people are irresponsible yes.. They can be dangerous, but most people are complaining about the noise.. & since I was a kid we have always set them off & never caught anything on fire.. I wouldnt mind if people were at least nice about it

We shouldn't be obligated to go out of our way to comfort out dogs. Our pets should be fine and they shouldn't NEED to be comforted.

Because people tend to get carried away with the fireworks. When I lived in Florida, these fools would start shooting that crap off a month beforehand, and let me tell you that can really piss you. Fireworks are legal for sale year round there. It just gets old, there should be limits.

Yeah.. I agree. But I think on the 4th and jan 1st as long as people are responsible & dont do it after like midnight people should be nice & deal with a little annoyance. :)

I have 14 horses & ya they dont like them but their spook trained too so they dont freak... Its not someone elses fault if your animal is scared
Report as
Umm it was a joke. ..? and what if I just began the spook training? It still wouldn't be the people who made the loud noises that caused it to freak out 's fault? ... So over it. Got no horse. Got no care left. Don't bother. If I could, I would detract a green! Blue for you!
*scoffs and walks away*

people like to complain about 1 thing or another..human nature. each person thinks their reason is completely reasonable...but then there are others who dont see what the big deal is....much like myself. i guess as a dispatcher listening to this all nite long you should try to find the humor in the complaints as a way of staying sane yourself...lol..

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (2)

Yeah. Lol I dont mind the complaints so much... Just mind people acting like its a life or death situation & threatening to go shoot people over it. Lol ... & yes. That actually happens(the threat anyways... So far nobody shot. Lol) ... We have hundreds of calls & people think theirs is most important

Many community's like mine have ordinances against shooting off fireworks in the city limits, its in essence is against the law, and carries a $500.00 fine. Yet there are those who feel it is their "right " to risk setting our homes and property on fire so they can "enjoy "the forth. Even though fireworks are legal in my state (Missouri) their use in the town is not. So ask yourself, is your city, town, community, one that bans the use of these devises? If so why aren't you doing your job for your town?

1st - I asked a question.. Did not say I am not doing my job. I put in a call everytime someone calls in. :) it is illegal where I work & Im fine with people calling but dont know why people have to be so rude to me about it because it is NOT my fault that these people are popping illegally!... But even where I live people want to complain & its legal where I live.
Report as
Oh and we've had HUNDREDS of calls & the officers are trying but people dont understand that there are only so many officers. :o

If it's legal where you live is it against policy to simply and politely state that it IS legal? Your question never said it was okay in your area to use them. And sorry I never stated that our town has the largest fireworks display within 100 miles. I didn't mean to come off so terse I was in your shoes 42 years ago, in Brighton Colorado.

Seriously- you are a dispatcher and you are asking The ASK community this question? Your training doesn't address this? Umm... What do you do for normal noise complaints, or when they are doing something that might cause serious property damage.

The ? Has nothing to do with my training. Lmao.... I am asking why people act like someone is shooting them over a little noise... I didnt ask "what should I do" .....
