I couldn't say for sure as I don't know them. But some people like to find power, satisfy curiosities and things like that. It never leads to a good end though. Sincerely hope you stay completely away from it. It is very dangerous and can ruin lives.

Why should it matter? So long as they aren't doing anything crazy (sacrificing animals, injuring people), it's perfectly fine. It's not okay to instantly cut them off if you're just going off stereotypes. Wait a month, either they'll do something that proves you shouldn't be friends with them, or they'll drop the religion.
