To the faithful, as I am a Catholic, I ponder this please tell me what you think...

Why doesn't God just prove his existence? People of faith will say because then the element of faith would be non-existent. True enough. But that's also admitting that there's no way to prove his existence and so to punish someone who did not believe in something that could not be proved would be grotesquely unfair--especially when the punishment is eternal damnation.

He shouldn't have to prove himself. That is what a lot of people say, but if you are faithful (admittedly I am not) then you may think that he has already proved himself by putting us on the planet.

But he did over 2000 years ago right?
Well if He shows himself to us the CREDIBILITY of our FAITH won't exist. In short, FAITH wouldn't be there because faith is believing when we don't understand (see, touch, feel).
If the natural surroundings wouldn't convince you of Him then look at the STRUCTURE of the DNA --- so organized, a product of Intelligent Design --- don't say it's by natural selection cos it's impossible.

How Long Does Experiencing God Take?

When you love God, you are eager for him to give himself to you.

Remember that Jesus Christ already did that on the cross. He proved his love for you two thousand years ago. Someone once remarked that if you were the only person on earth, Jesus still would have died to save you from your sins.

Experiencing God in an intimate, personal way takes patience. The more you read the Bible, pray, and surrender yourself to him, the more Jesus will move in your life. But we cannot force this to occur. God works in his own time and in his own way.

When it happens, and it will happen, you will know it. You will know, without a doubt, that it was not your imagination or some odd coincidence. You will be stunned at the depth of God?s love for you, and your life will never, ever be the same.

I've often wondered the same thing. I think if we knew, for a fact God existed. There would be a heck of a lot less bad people.

I could not agree with you more. Your thoughts are mine and mine yours.
Your question has echoed in my head for so long it no longer begs a question for me. The only thing that is left is the resounding truth that is blaring in my head that either god is not a good god or that the god you may know is not real at all. If I could ignore the thoughts that are surely going to send me to hell if this god exists I think I might choose to but I cannot for the truth is potent and I far too sensitive to it to ignore it.

Fill the bill I like your spunkyness
Are you into philosophy? Greek mythology? So ponder this tell me what you think like you said two like minds tell me what you think k?
You are here: Philosophy >> Great Philosophers

Great Philosophers ? Ideas of God
What did the great philosophers of the past think about the idea of God? Many of the great musicians, scientists, and leaders in history professed some belief in an all-powerful God. What about the great thinkers of philosophy? Just as in science, music, the arts, and culture, there are a large number of respected philosophers who made clear statements about their faith. Some expressed strong belief. Some expressed doubt. Others just asked questions. Looking at some of history?s most famous philosophers provides a great deal of insight into the perception of God in the world of philosophy.

Greek philosophers mostly asked questions about the general idea of divinity, and framed their questions around moral issues. Socrates stated a narrow, more common version of the golden rule when he said, ?Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others.? All of Socrates? philosophy was related by Plato, his most famous student, so it can be hard to tell what beliefs are from Socrates, and which are from Plato. Plato?s writings describe what he calls ?The Form of the Good,? and he seemed to have some idea of a supernatural authority. He even stated, ?Death is not the worst that can happen to man.? Even his interest in the stars inspired belief. In his own words, ?Astronomy compels the soul to look upwards and leads us from this world to another.? check what I told the others copy / paste..

Haha, I am magnetic to some and my force is undeniable though not obviously seen to most. Thank you for you kind comment on my bio. I wrote it in like 10 minutes when I needed a bio haha. Wild yes very. I like your bit about god forgiving us if there is one. The molesting thing is weird but understandable. It's just that before that was happening the church is the last place most ppl would look for child molesters. A clever strategy for an alienated practice; do it in a church. I love philosophy but to my own dismay cannot bring myself to sit down and read every ones work in one sitting. I know a bit of every one's but vaguely. Quite familiar with John Stewart (not the comedy central guy although I appreciate his words too.) I am liberty minded.

I wouldn't presume to know much about the thoughts on past philosophers but what I have read which is little. I do philosophize myself though and enjoy discussing personal philosophy and greatly enjoy hearing about others philosophies; personal ones from intelligent people or from great philosophers from the past. I have met some great philosopher's from our generation and no one will know there names because things are different now as the philosophers are not as revered as they once were; holy books have taken the place of progressive thought in too many cases.

Divinity is a fun topic to discuss but I'm certain a topic better discussed with one more educated, in the philosophers notions you mentioned, than I. I do feel I may have little to offer that you have not read your self. I can however state that the golden rule is broken in at least most of it's forms; Socrates or otherwise. I am a sadist and a masochist and I have concluded through experience that most ppl wish to be held to a greater standard than what I hold for them in this respect. The differences between the two you mention are subtle and hard to discern, I agree.

"Death is no the worst that can happen to man." Well I don't think supernatural authority is what he was talking about although it could be taken that way. I think it may be a simple missive to denote that suffering in life is worse than the respite of death. Like instant death is better than slow painful death by power sander. Astronomy could be taken how perhaps the heavens have a special place but I could see how if I were to say this I would be referencing interplanetary travel.

Look when Jesus walked among people there were still MANY doubters. So even if he came and walked among us now, there would still be many doubters. And besides the issue of Faith is paramount.

GOD does prove HIS existence through every bit of creation. That's why we have no excuse!
(For since the creation of the world HIS invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even HIS eternal power and GODhead so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20)
Through creation, we have proof that GOD exists. (:
