Can anyone tell me if it is possible to put an 'LS1' Chevy engine in an '87' Toyota 4 WD pickup? If so,how.?

If you want to spend the money and time, anything is possible.

Why you would do it is another story.

Given the tools, dollars and proper shop, you can fabricate anything.

Some things are not possible. Try putting your elbow in your ear.
Why someone would want to is ; they like their Toy but it is grossly underpowered and I haven't found the '22RE' to be as wonderful as everyone says. I think the 'LS1' might even get better mileage. Plus it's cool.

I agree with Miramar..... And what does putting your elbow in your ear have anything to do with your question?

When it comes to cars anything is possible.

A friend put a Corvette engine into a Nash Metropolitan. So if it could be made to fit in that, it can certainly fit into yours.

Cool is subjective. I don't think any Toyota is cool so the engine choice to me makes no difference.

Maybe that is why they are having trouble working on their truck ? It is hard to hold the tools if your arm is in your ear.

My "elbow in ear" comment was to illustrate that some things are not possible. I was actually wondering about feasibility. People have been doing V8 swaps in Toyota 4x4's for years but the LS1 is different. I was kind of hoping to hear from someone who had done it or at least knew what they were talking about rather than a bunch of smartasses.

You would need to use the engine, transmission, computer (PCM/ECM), and wiring harness. Then alot of fabrication and time.

Thanks. I knew it wouldn't be easy. I saw it done on an S10 4 WD Blazer on "Spike TV". They had a kit for the computer etc. There was still a lot of fabrication and trial and error because of the 4 WD. I would like to have an LS1 and a 700R4 tranny but I don't know if it will ever happen but I'm going to keep looking in to it.

It would actually be a 4L60E transmission. The 4L60E is the electronic version of the 700r4 which came out in 1992. Just a little knowledge for you.

Thanks again.

Yes it is possible. I have a friend with the same set up. You have to make some room under the hood. Send the wiring harness from the LS1(if you have it) and the harness from the Toyota to the painless wiring harness place. Tell them your putting the motor in you're Toyota and they will build you a new harness specifically for that engine in the Toyota. It will plug right up and go.
