I don't think it's always a bad thing to get a tattoo. Depending on how big it is and where you get it can make it bad. I think it limits your career choices when you you have one on your face, neck or hands. I haven't seen a CEO, a stockbroker, or a commercial pilot with tattoos you can see.
They r considered bad because it scars ur skin, and it is extremely painful to remove. If someone were to get a tattoo, I recommend to get it small, something u will never get sick of, and in an appropriate area.
It just depends on the person. All that talk about not having a job if you have tattoos is bs. I'm fully sleeved and have my hands tattooed and I have a job making 70 grand a year. Granted it isn't a bank but still. I love my tattoos and they my right to be an individual and unique.
Tattoos aren't always a bad idea. Anyone who says it is... Is probably biased. Consider the following: yes, a tattoo is for life. This means it needs to be thought out. Getting drunk one night and stumbling into whichever place is open, or even a garage... Yeah, that's probably always going to be a bad idea. Think about what you're going to do... Think about what you want and where you'd like it to be... If you're a fickle person, you probably shouldn't be getting a tattoo and please, if you're only doing it because you're the only one of your friends who doesn't have one... Leave. I work in one of the worlds most famous tattoo shops. Regardless of how bad I want your money I (personally) will always tell you a name is a bad idea.
If a tattoo is something you are actually considering doing... Please be over the age of 18. Under age tattooing isn't something I condone unless it is a medical alert tattoo.
Know what you want. Tattooing isn't something that should be done on a whim.
Make sure your first tattoo is hidden... Just incase down the road a little bit you need to obtain a job that will otherwise not consider you.
Look at portfolios... Make sure the place is clean. Make sure you are comfortable with your surroundings and that you don't feel uneasy about the situation. First impressions are everything and in this case, that may be all you get. Naturally I'm going to recommend you check out more than one shop just to know what you're up against.
