Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. The states of matter are solid, liquid, gas. Plasma may also be considered a fourth state of matter.

Matter is objects that take up space and have mass. All the material on earth is in three states of solid, liquid, and gas. It is a general term for the substance of which all physical objects consist. Matter can change from one state to another, which is called physical change.
