If you take it to an Apple Store, they will replace the screen for you right there. If it's within the first year, they may not charge you. But if it's over one year, they usually charge a set fee of $79 for parts and labor--if it were an iPod it would cost about $49 You need to make an appointment, before going in, with their "expert bar". You can make the appointment online, in just a few minutes. Good luck! PS--don't bother taking it in at all, if it's jail broken. They won't touch it.
The same problem happened to me with my iPhone 3GS . I bought a new screen online and replaced it myself. It was a tough process. But buy the screen and take it to a shop where they fix these types of problems.
KLY, What was a nice iPod like yours doing in a joint like that?
Have you considered that you didn't drop it at all but that HImself may have been affronted that you had the gall to bring something like that into His House? (I think the idea of churching is to worship but, as an outsider, I may be wrong.)
If He snatched it from your hand and cast it to the ground it may be past repair. After all, he may not have invented the iPhone, but He sure as hell knows how to destroy one.
