Why can't I copy a .bin file to my SD card, and how can I get it to work?

I'm trying to update the firmware in my Pentax camera, and to do that I need to copy a file into the root folder of a formatted SD card. I can copy other files (.jpgs) onto it just fine, but when I try to copy the .bin file, my computer tells me it cannot be copied.

Is the card in the camera when you try this? If it is, take it out and plug it into your pc and try.

Make sure the file isn't being read by a program while you are trying to copy it. Restart the pc if you are not sure. Then try again.
Make sure you are copying and pasting. Not cutting.

What format dis you format the card to? Fat32, or NTSC?
Try reversing whichever format you have.

I tried to copy it directly, in my computer's card reader.

Btw, just now I tried other formats - but Windows was unable to complete the format (NTFS, FAT32, & exFAT).

By the way, I'm receiving a "error 0x080070570" message upon its failure to copy.

You can try and convert the file to a jpg to make the process easier. It would be simpler to convert the bin files to jpg format, which is the familiar picture format to make copying possible.

I don't want to mess with the file format... If the update fails, it renders my camera inoperable, the repairs for which are not covered by warranty.
