2000 Dodge Dakota: Problem with door handle?

I cannot get into my truck unless I open the passenger side door first, lean over and open the drivers door from the inside. HELP! The truck has not been in an accident, so I'm wondering if this is some sort of defect in some Dodge Dakota trucks. I cannot believe such a problem is happening because even with the crummiest of vehicles, DOOR HANDLES usually are the last thing to malfunction in fact they usually last PERIOD. (Unless an accident has prevented them from operating properly) Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The door handle is broken. This is because if you can open the door from inside, it means the metal bar attaching the lever of the door handle to the door latch has a problem. You need to get it fixed by a professional. I would suggest contacting a mechanic for further help.

Damn! If you are right....AAAARGH! Like I said in my question, how in the hell does something like THAT break??? If this is indicative of what Detroit is cranking out, then I might just go ahead and buy a KIA for my next vehicular purchase!! (In fact as I type this response, I'm looking at a an ad for the 2012 Ram to the immediate right of my comment box and I'm thinking: "Are you kidding me???! My DOOR HANDLE just broke!! Even YUGO's were built well enough that their DOOR HANDLE lasted!! Jesus!! (Sorry for all the vitriolics, I'm clearly not a happy camper right now--Nothing personal.)

I gave you green and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you are trying to be funny or perhaps trying to cheer me up, but if the person who answered before you is right. I am NOT amused right now.
