How can sadness make one feel pain in their heart?

Aren't feelings controlled by the brain? So how come when someone is sad their heart hurts instead of their head? Or is it that our heart really doesn't hurt but we imagine that it does because it's a well known concept that the heart aches/breaks when one's unhappy.

Sorry if the question is silly but I am very sad and I actually feel pain in my heart,so I was just wondering if there's a reason or if my mind is playing tricks on me.

Your brain reacts to your bodies feelings. Your heart hurts because it is your heart chakra which is the area of the body(chest area) that gives love when the heart chakra is open. By opening yourself up emotionally, you give love but also are open to receiving love, sort of like a need to fill your gas tank(instead you are filling your love tank). When you don't get that love, you feel empty/sad/hurt.

Stress, increased blood pressure, muscle contractions. Grief is very stressful.

I actually think it is our minds affecting our bodies...that is quite possible, and your theory about believing it's actual 'heartbreak' seems plausible...but I think it's a very common thing.

My heart actually hurts when i'm emotionally pained too. It's a weird thing isn't it.....

I understand how you feel heartache is very hard to deal with and it does seem to actually make your heart hurt i think that your feelings and emotions that are tied in with your brain are making your heart hurt but don't worry the sun will shine again=) i promise you and i hope your heart gets better</3
