What if your landlord wants you to fix up a rent house inlul of rent $1,500.00 but it costed alot more to even make it livable

Report as

Your landlord is doing the right thing. I don't see a problem. He gave you a months free rent. It cost him money, not you. He fixed the property, took a loss of rent for a month and a loss to fix the place. Most landlords would not do this for you, give you a month free rent. I would be happy with what you got. He could have been rude and still charged you rent for the time that the house was not under repair.

I think you miss understood my question! I have spent $ 3,500.00 not the landlord & I've had to do all the work not the landlord & now the landlord only wants to give me 1,500 toward rent when I have all reciets and everything

Not fair at all. Was there any contract? Sounds like he took advantage of you. Also he didn't have to pay for labor. You got screwed. Take him to court.

Oh no no no. He made you fix the property out of your own pocket. NO! Sorry, I misunderstood. Absoutley NOT, in fact I would be talking to an attorney. Now don't take my word for it, I'm not attorney. I have withheld rent before to a landlord when he would not fix a property. I won when we went to court. You need to save all receipts, and contractors invoices. You need to give him an invoice on how much it cost to fix the place. He needs to reimburse you that money. The only way he does not have to replace your money is if you went above his cost he told you, you could spend. Or if you went for fancier items to have the place fixed. If you talk to an attorney, they will probably tell you the same thing. First though sit down with your landlord and tell him/her the issues and show him/her the receipts. You are renting from him/her. It is their responsibility to fix the property, hire contractors or what not. Sometimes they let the tenet do this because they are not in the area of the property so they let you do it. But if you spent what you say you did, and have the receipts like you say you do, you may have a small claims case against him. If I were you, again, contact an attorney and get a free case evaluation. I'm so sorry you are going through this, it sucks!

Yes it does suck but I did go cheapest way out & still had to spend more! The place should have been condimed! I have before pics during pics & after pics they don't!

Yep he's trying to screw u. Take your pics and reciepts to a lawyer. You could try talking to the landlord first but I get a feeling that won't help

That's pretty sorry of him, but unless you had some sort of written agreement, I don't know what legal recourse you would have. You could, of course, offer to 'undo' the improvements you have made if he does not wish to reimburse you ;p

You could always show him the invoice/receipts of what it took to make the home a comfortable place to live. Maybe you can work something out if it's reasonable.
