Absolutely wrong! Parents like that disgust me. I am a mom and would never do that. I am 41, and remember my father doing that with my money when I was growing up...it clearly bothered me since I remeber it still.

Maybe if she only did it really uncommonly... then it might be ok. But if she did it all the time, then she is TOTALLY wrong. But she has the rights to spend it. She also has the rights not to spend it :D

if the money was going to bills or food, no. if it's going to something your mom wants, yes.

Yeah. This is why I keep all my money either in cash in a secret spot or on amazon.com.

its still wrong if shes getting her something. if she wants to get her something she should use her own money. how would you like it if i took money out of you wallet and got you something without your permission?

Yes, it's totally wrong!!! You can also make her pay it back, but that could cost you more money hiring an attorney. I her name on your bank account? If so, have her named removed from it. Also, you may want to contact your bank and see what they say.
It's not your responsibility to pay rent, mortgage or bills, unless the two of you have agreed that you're willing to help out with these expenses!
I know this from personal experience!! I took money from my sons account years ago before I got sober. It was wrong, and I had to pay every penny back, with interest!!

It may not be her responsibility to pay the bills, but if mom was struggling to keep a roof over the family's head, and food on the table everyone in the household should give what they can.sometimes sacrifices have to be made. Besides,we don't know the whole story.

True, we don't know the whole story. However the comment "for her own selfish reasons" leads me to believe it wasn't for something like paying bills or putting food on the table!

Rm, I'm thinking this could also be a child, parents grab birthday money, here and there... Pack of smokes... Blah blah.. Wrong, but maybe not large sums to pay bills, as in mom and adult child.
Question is vague, hard to say what's going on.

Of course it's wrong, she is spending their hard-earned money!! But if it's for a necessity like food, then it's totally okay as long as she pays the daughter back. :]
