God is real! So why don't people think that?

Report as

Proof!! Other than what has been written in books there is no physical proof. Surely it is possible that people from the bible may have been people that once existed but to think that this GOD created heaven and Earth is just to hard to believe. Example: I happen to believe in Dinosaurs and there is proof that they once existed which was long before mankind so therefore how could God have created Heaven and Earth? Evolution seems so much more Plausible, again not to say that God and Jesus, the son of God, never existed I just don't believe in was in the realm of what people are made to believe. But if Faith and Belief is what keeps you going then by all means I believe you should believe! This is just my personal opinion and I hope that it doesn't upset anyone because I think everyone has the right to their on beliefs and I certainly don't believe that myself or anyone else with similar beliefs will be going to so-called Hell for our beliefs! Hope with all my heart that you're having a Wonderful Life, Peace, Love and A Great Big Hug

Lack of evidence to support the assertion, although I can't speak for all nonbelievers.

There shouldn't have to be any evidence god is real
Report as
exactly what every believer says. then they ask us what is our proof that god isnt real or that he doesnt exist
Report as
No I'm not asking is he real, I'm asking why people think he's fakr
Report as
i know youre not. youre asking why people think that about him. thats my point. you want us to explain why we have our beliefs but you say yourself you dont need to explain your beliefs.
Report as
No, my belief is Christ
Report as
exactly. and if i told you christ was merely a man who went pyscho and thuoght he knew everything then what would you say to that? i mean youre going to explain your belief to me by talking abotu your religion. its basically saying you believe god is real because the bible says that. well that doesnt really work. but you argue your belief based on your religion. not everyone believes in jesus; i certainly dont. respect other peoples beliefs.
Report as
Why don't you believe in Christ? Who do you believe in?
Report as
If you believe something without evidence that is called faith. Not everybody shares your faith and that's ok since you don't have any facts to prove that you are right.
Report as
i dont believe in christ because i dont. not everyone believes in christ. for example, i ask a child if they believe in the easter bunny and they tell me yes. suppose i asked you the same thing and you told me no. why wouldnt you? surely if this child can believe then so can you. but you see thats the point. not everyone believes the same thing. i dont believe in christ because i think hes a fictional character. and i dont believe in anybody. except myself, not religion wise that is. well sometimes i believe in myself
Report as
Believe what you want to. If you don't believe god is real hell is
Report as
whatever you believe. if you have to have burning fires to tell you to do a good deed and not accept homosexuals are gay because they just are and everybody else is bad and you have no idea if youre going to heaven because its really gods choice or not if you make it then whatever. if you have to have burning fires that will burn you for all eternity in order to not murder someone or not to spill your anger and do good in the world then thats you. but i know i dont have to have the threat of that in order to do good in the world
Report as
Hell doesn't seem real, after a while humans adapt to things no matter what they are, people can even walk on burning coals with enough practice. If we were burned for eternity eventually we would get used to it.
Report as
If an entity interacts with reality in any demonstrable way (answered prayer, miracles, Jesus on toast, etc), it should be detectable. If you make the claim, back it up. Faith is not an acceptable excuse for anything. Faith leads me to believing in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Report as
actually, i would love to believe in the flying spaghetti monster. tell me more about his Holy Noodliness
Report as
This is not a joke! Then when you die and you're burning and can't get out now you wish you would have listened! Hell is on your way!
Report as
Praise be to his holy noodliness, may he forever remain saucy lol
Report as

Well you know what? All of you all need to get in church! Fine don't believe your alls parents really taught you well
Report as
so now i need to go into a church to believe? why? so the atmosphere can encourage me, thats all it really is.
Report as
Vana, I have just as much justification for claiming your soul goes to Pastafarian hell for not accepting him into your food pyramid. Ignore my FSM line and reread my last post if it makes it sound less serious. You need evidence for any claim if you expect others to believe it. I just like FSM because it's on the same level as a god, so it works better than the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, etc.

I would have to agree with Rmoran's first post. Some christians like to say that god can't be proven because he is "not of this world". But if he interacts with humans in any way, he would, at some point, have to cross over to our "realm". And when he did, why couldn't it be proven somehow? Why won't god heal amputees? Why is every miracle something that could also be coincidence?
Report as
If the claim is that your god must be believed on faith, I never want to hear about miracles, visions, answered prayers, creationism, or any other sort of divine intervention. It's all void when you throw out the presence of evidence.
Report as
I'm with tra. We hear about medical miracles all the time--faith healing of terminal cancer, paralyzed people walking, blind people seeing--but never the medical miracle of a regenerated limb after amputation. Why is that? Why would it be harder for an all-powerful deity to restore a limb than give back sight or cure a terminal disease?
Report as
In case you guys weren't aware:
http://whywontgodhealamputees.com
It's actually a petty good website.
Report as
and the reason why faith does heal that stuff is called the human mind. you convince yourselves its going to work and thus your mind makes it work. just like you were in danger and needed strength. you would pray to god and think that god was actually doing something. in reality though it was you doing it the entire time, you just had the encouragement of the idea that a higher power was out there
Report as
Unless you look at things like the one 2+ million $ Templeton prayer study. People that knew they were being prayed for actually did the worst on recovery!
Report as
yeah because they just let themselves go. they were so convinced it would work they just decided not to even try. recovery and healing can only work if one tries. for example: suppose something that changes the world happens. i make a bet with you and you say youll pray to make it better, but i go out there and make it happen. the fact that i go out there and make it happen gives you reason to say prayer works. but no prayer doesnt really work. its the fact that you go out there and you try to do something that works.

there is no evidence that hes real nor any evidence that he isnt real. its all in your beliefs. honestly im an atheist and i hate it when people say god is real; why cant you think that. its called not being able to understand everybody has their own beliefs. if you think god is real then whatever; thats what you believe. but believe me there are plenty of people who believe in god. im not trying to say he isnt real but im also not saying he is. just realize that hes your belief.

Alright listen. Some people weren't born in a community that worships God. But it does not mean they'll go to hell. The forgiveness of Jesus will lead them down the right path. If u do meet someone with other beliefs or someone that is homosexual u need to respect them and accept wat they believe. I m a Methodist Christian and this is wat I believe.

It says in the bible, you can go gods way which is the right way you can go the devils way which is the wrong way. And yes if you don't believe in god he gives you your whole life to devote to him and believe in him and if you don't do that it plainly says you will go to hell! But god is wonderful he will answer your prayers really people do you have to have proof? God is real
Report as
Yes we need proof and your bible doesn't count since it was written by a number of men a number of years after the fact and it has been edited, re edited and translated to death.
Report as
Let's compare and contrast: "god is wonderful" and "if you don't [believe in god] it plainly says you will go to hell". I don't know about you, but describing a deity as wonderful who would be so loving as to send one of his own creation to a lake of fire to be tortured for eternity just for using his own "god-given" brain to make a decision just doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

@Vana: You have stated that God is real because you believe He is real. There are tribes in the Amazon who not only believe that forest spirits are real, but that they communicate with them regularly. Wouldn't those forest spirits be just as real because they believe them to be real? This ?truth? has been passed down to them from generation to generation, and is supported by those in the tribe who testify that they have actually communicated with these spirits. So with all this ?evidence? of belief through the passage of time and personal testimonies, how could these forest spirits not be real? Why don't we think THEIR gods are real?

Because some people say,"there's no proof of God" which is sad because there is proof look in a social studies book and go to Christianity and it talks about Jesus and his father God.

most people look for proof, but almost everyone believes in some kind of afterlife, usually. Many people who dont believe now. will be believe later, or will never believe. if you want proof, good things in the bible we have found, people want to believe in something that requires no work, and makes them feel good about themselves, superior most of the time.

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (3)
Report as
Humans only belive in some kind of afterlife because they don't like the idea of eternal darkness without thoughts. We don't want to stop existing.
Report as
I do not believe in an after life and I don't want there to be one. If there is in after life that means you would live forever in the after life. Think of how boring it would be to never stop thinking. You would always have thoughts and eventually run out of things to do. Some people take comfort believing that their loved ones go on to heaven. I take comfort believing when I die that's it it's over.
Report as
As an atheist, I have no evidence that supports the concept of an afterlife. I cannot say that a supernatural world of some kind does not exist. I just don't have the requisite evidence to know that it does.

However, if there is an afterlife in some supernatural world, the odds that we know what that supernatural world is like are infinitesimal given the infinite possibilities. If there is a god or gods in the supernatural world, and if that god or those gods are directly involved in our natural world, there is still an infinitesimal possibility that we, on this earthly plane, have any understanding of them.

Knowing and believing are, by definition, two different things. If I said I believe in Santa Clause, you might say, "Ummmm....ok," But if I said I KNOW Santa is real, you'd tell me I'm nuts. Or at least, you should. It's the same principal here. Faith is not proof. Believing is not knowing. Some people have to have proof.

Worldviews are not facts, they are interpretations of facts. Strung one way, the facts form a narrative that is different from that if the facts were strung another way. Using the same facts, a person can form a different narrative, depending on which is given priority. And ignoring some facts in favor of others will lend itself to a worldview that may be internally consistent but not completely representational.
I am tempted to say that atheists ignore facts that believers do not. This results in their seeing a world consistently but not representationally. But truth is, they do not have the ability to perceive the facts that are generated by faith, and discount the class of facts altogether. They are in the minority in this, but numbers do not dissuade them. I am tempted to say this, but I will not, because it is unfair to my atheist friends.

To you, your god is real, to me my gods and goddesses are real. So, not everyone believes the same thing as you. So, your question is one of perspective. You believe in one god, I believe in many gods and goddesses. Until I am face to face with evidence to the contrary, I'm sticking with what I believe (and that's probably the same with you).
