Professional to me is more a way of behaving than of a position or the fact that someone gets paid to do something. I have seen many people in professional positions who had absolutely no clue how to conduct themselves professionally. When one conducts themselves professionally, they are able to separate personal feelings from what needs to be done to get a job accomplished, yet they never lose sight of what is truly important. They can administer effectively, yet make others in the organization feel vital to the operations of said organization. They never lose their tempers, or let personal feelings (either positive or negative) affect their decisions.
