How to heal my ankle? ("Rolled it")

I rolled my ankle really bad a couple years ago and it never healed properly. it's always felt out of place and cracks loudly a few times a day since. I rolled the same one again today and I'm wondering if there is a proper way to heal it WITHOUT a doctor trip? (could be a sprain or pulled tendon... can't walk on it or bend without pain... pretty much just clumsy... twisted it till it gave out and i fell walking over a curb)

R.I.C.E - Rest, Ice, Elevation, Compression. Then when it's better from the recent injury, do some ankle strengthening exercises.

Get an ankle brace even if it's a cheap one from Walmart to stabilize it to prevent further injury wear it for a week or 2 take it off for breaks every now and then throughout the day only wear it at night If needed and ice, prop it up to prevent swelling, small stretches and circles and then in a couple weeks start toning to build the muscles

If it is a simple spray, you can heal by your own workout. Right at the moment, you need to rest the ankle to prevent more injury to it. Then, as the pain feels better, consider doing some workout. A good exercise you can do is doing crutches. Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprained_ankle.
