A boxer or pit bull would be good. But it also depends on other things, like if you mind shedding, how much time you can exercise it a day, how long it would be home alone, etc

In my opinion, a Labrador retriever is a great choice for a dog. They are known to be pleasant and kind dogs and also have a characteristic for having a lack of fear. They are also an intelligent breed which after good training makes wonderful companions. Read more details at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador_Retriever.

if you read my comment at the bottom, you will see why from the view of a lab owner and trainer why they are not a good choice for just anyone

I would say a German shepherd, they are protective but a very good breed of dog to have! I had a German shepherd once and they are one of the best dogs, I think. If not a german shepherd I would say border collie. I have one of them now and they are not only protective but they are fun to play with and very smart! Hope I helped! :)

I think you should get a Golden Reteriver. (Golden Reteriver Lab Mix). I have a 3yr old cousin and they have a golden reteriver and it is so nice and playful and it also protects him.
My friends have a little brother who is 4 or 5 and they have a golden reteriver Lab mix, and she is one of the friendlest dogs ive met. They let him go outside alone (with the dog). But she knows us and we were walkin by the one day and she wouldnt let us come near him. So i think they are a pretty good dog. Very intelegent to! Hope I helped :)

A siberian Husky is a nice protective Dog that will always be by your side (said from personal experience). But they also may need a nice brush every week. I personally think German Sheperds are amazing dogs! You should get one.

I would say a Pit Bull, any dog can be mean. Dogs are never born mean and vicious. Its all in how you raise them :) I have a Pit Bull and I trust her around kids and other animals including dogs. Just do some research about the breed you are going to get before you get them.

My dog is a purebred mutt! lol:) and he is the best dog in the world! Instead of looking for a purebred or "designer" dog I'd recommend going to a local shelter, or even better contacting a rescue group that puts their dogs in foster care. All dogs are different, so instead of looking for a specific breed look for a specific dog. www.petfinder.com is a nice place to start, but make sure you contact the animal rescue and meet the dog before making anything official. Good luck!

a blue pit terrier, i hav 1 and she is so nice, she will protect me though. it all depends how the dog was brought up. or a german shepard. i had 1 and she looked big and scary, she scared a lot of my friends but she was very sweet, the best dog ever

that depends on you and your family. i have an american hairless terrier and if you like a very hyper feisty small dog i would recommend one. they are also very protective of our family and sometimes barks at strangers. also this breed is very smart. i also used to have an yorkshire terrier i wasnt alive during her young days but when she was around 13-15 years old she was very calm and just sat in every ones lap. and licked them she also lost her sense of hearing and smell. it was kind of sad to see her live. also i think a lab is a great choice i know they are very sweet. maybe a husky or great Dane? but they can be a little mean. you should just research a lot of recommended dogs that you think you would like.

I have to say either pitbull or boxer, here are my reasons.
Pitbull- you may heard horror stories about them but that is all overrated, and it is all how they are raised, and how they are trained. I have owned many pitbulls in my lifetime, and fostered many...but never been bitten by one(I have been bitten by many little/small dogs) they are very loyal, smart, sweet, and gentle giants. they can be good guard dogs but really sweet too.

Also, everyone says to get a lab...DONT! I have a lab puppy and she is the worst behaved dog EVER, I am a semi-certified dog trainer(I didn't go to college for it but I've taken many classes) and seriously every single lab I train is terribly behaved...they chew everything, are extremely wild, very destructive, and can extremely injure the elderly or young children because they jump so much. don't get me wrong, they're sweet dogs...but be prepared to pay 1,000s of dollars in repairs and vet bills.

Rottweilers can be great for protection. I trained a Rot-Beagle mix to protect, taught it tricks, and she stayed sweet as can be.
